The Official Lanyard Thread

On the blue Mel Pardue knife, your lanyard is attached to thr pocket clip. Just FYI, that's illegal in CA!
I'm not looking to start any California bashing but have you got any idea of why attaching a fob to the pocket clip would not be allowed there?

I have one knife without a fob hole but the knife benefits from a fob so it goes on the clip. It makes the knife cumbersome for me so I seldom carry it.

Yes, you can attach a lanyard to the pocket clip or lanyard hole of a knife in California to aid in drawing or securing it. However, the key legal requirement in California is that any folding knife that locks must be carried in a folded/closed position and cannot be considered a concealed "dirk or dagger".

This is what I found repeated, didn't see any official code on it.

I'm not usually a lanyard guy, but I saw this gummy looking bear bead, and thought it would fit well with Shiro's logo being a bear as kind of a fun connection. Secured it with my first ever successful diamond knot. Also decided I wanted it removable so I could swap in a more neutral looking lanyard for more formal settings. Or to remove it entirely without having to untie it. I found these tiny s-clips used in jewelry making that are just the right size for the application.

Maybe not a lanyard and definitely not a knife, but our trusty Chemex pour-through saved us when we were without power for four days after the last nor'easter. I've had that coffee-maker for 40 or 50 years and the leather thong holding the wooden collar and bead on finally died after we were done with it this time. It only comes out when we lose power but it's ready to go with its single diamond knot, bright new necktie next time things go dark.

I did a bit of bead swapping yesterday when my new-to-me "mini" Rukus showed up. I'd bought the latest bead I'd posted above without any application for it in mind, just simply because I liked it. When the new Manix 2 CruCarta showed up I hung it on the new tail, but felt it looked too large for the knife from the get-go. It seemed a better fit for the 615 so I swapped it over and think it's much better with that one, though it's still a bit on the biggish side.

The Manix side of the swap involved another bead bought last year with no knife in mind from a different favored Artsy Craftsy website maker. This is one was listed as "red linen Micarta" though it has a more wooden, organic vibe to it, and seems a much better fit for look and scale the natural CruCarta knife.

Here's a tight shot of my latest J Hue bead after swapping to my 615 Ruckus which seemed a more appropriate size match for it. The end layers, inside the vintage Micarta butterscotch caps show off their Jade coloration a bit better in this light than the pic a couple posts back.
