Don't worry about the whole preorder thing. This will be a regular production model so ZT has got your back.

Can somebody tell me how the KVT system works? And what kind of plastic is used to hold the ball bearings?
Is is stong enough and does it attract much dirt? Thanks

The kvt bearings are really nice. They don't attract much dirt or grit from my use. Periodically I pull my 801 apart and give everything a good cleaning. I am a big fan of this bearing system

The KVT on my knives is awesome. My 0600 is butter smooth, but if I take it to the ocean and play in the sand I usually take it apart at home and do a quick clean. Which would be a good things to do KVT or not.

Its 7 ball bearings that sit in a plastic disk.

Not my pic...

I can't believe I'm saying this... But I was sure yesterday that I wanted the Elmax version because I like having a full stonewashed blade and g10 scale so the knife can hide its wear... But after seeing all the videos and pictures of the 562CF I started having second thoughts. I just tried to shrug it off and think 'well I'll buy a CF in a few months after my daughters birthdays and what not', especially because the online stores I went to were no longer taking preorders on the 562CF. That's what I get for being late to the party. :(

However, I did find one place that was still taking preorders on the CF so I decided that I'll cancel my original preorder and preorder myself the 562CF. :D I'm not sure if I can mention prices or not so I won't be specific... But even with 2nd Day Air Shipping it still came out cheaper than I thought I would pay for a CF. I am a happy man!!! :D This will be my first Carbon Fiber Frame Lock, my first Hinderer design, and my first M390 blade. I can't wait to see that big beautiful brown truck outside my door!

I am very happy that I was able to preorder the 562 in M390 and CF this late. I only buy two or three knives a year so I try to find ever and any knife that might fit my criteria before I make any purchases, just to make sure that the knife I end up buying is the one I want most so I don't have to try and trade or sell it and start over again. Unfortunately where I live the few places that do sell knives don't sell good quality knives, so I never get to hold, fondle, or even see the knives I want in person. I have very high hopes for this knife though, even though it is a bit small for an EDC, I see myself loving the 562CF so much that I am already thinking about getting an Elmax version in a few months and have some nice sculpted tan G10 scales made for it. :D I wonder why ZT and Hinderer haven't used his Spanto Grind on any of their collaborations... I'm sure that would sell like crazy.

I know this probably has been asked a couple thousand times, but is there any ETA on the 562 yet? I've never preordered a knife before so I am not used to not knowing when my baby will show up. How do you guys deal with the wait?

Strength I'm sure is not an issue with the KVT system, that said I think they are more ideal for a flipper, and I still prefer spacers.

One thing I've never liked about bearing pivots is that you can't tailor the pivot friction/tension to your liking. For example on my 25/Ummnumzan/VCEP they are super smooth, but they are super smooth across a wide range of pivot tensions. I prefer some tension on a non-flipper as the blade tends to "get away" once you break the initial detent tension and the thumb can end up on the blade. On a flipper it's not an issue, you want minimal tension without play, bearings are great for that.

In the desert my bearing pivot knives require more frequent flushing than spacers. This isn't surprising, if I look at the pivot on my 0560cbcf you can see significant gaps around the blue bearing retainer and the bearings are clearly exposed, so of course grit is getting in there faster. My Microtech (Socom delta) seems to do a better job of encasing the bearings/pivot design to reduce exposure, all you see is the plastic bearing retainer. I'd imagine in most environments and for knives that spend most of their time closed in a pocket it's never an issue.

I don't own a significant sample size, but my smoothest knives still use spacers, so I don't see what bearings add, aside more parts to break, wear out, and attract dirt. Though I suppose it's good marketing. It might also be more forgiving of wider tolerances, almost every bearing pivot knife I've used is pretty darn smooth with no play, but with spacers you really have to have the handle gap tolerances sorted if it's going to be smooth without play so it may allow for more forgiving manufacturing.

Saving up a little bit more and then getting one on pre-order!
Can't wait:D
Let's see who get's it first, me or my brother!:)

How do you guys think the satin blades will stand up to daily use? I won't be abusing the knife, but will be using it for normal everyday tasks; cutting paper, string/thin rope, cardboard, meat, fruits/veggies, and thin plastic - like toy stubborn toy packages. In the videos it looks like the satin blade shows all the fingerprints and the fully stonewashed blade hides everything much better. I still haven't canceled my original preorder so I have both versions on preorder right now, but I can only afford one for now, and will buy the other version probably at the beginning of next year depending on when they are released. So if the satin blade will scratch easier then I'll buy the stonewashed version first so I can baby the CF when I buy it. I don't have experience with ZTs satin though, so I thought I would ask. A couple of my satin knives (that I sold or traded) would show some light scratching and even seem to stain a little (s30v) if I used them to cut food and didn't wash the blade right away. But my stonewashed zt350 (also s30v) still looks new. I also have an Emerson CQC 13 (154cm) that has a two tone blade similar to the 562, stonewashed flats and satin bevel/swedge, but doesn't show any scratching or staining yet - I've only had it for around 3 months.

Grrr. All these new good looking knives and none of them are liner or subframe locks. Throw us guys who work in the elements a bone KAI!

You might give the 0350 a try. Lovely liner lock with a solid G10 handle.

I think the satin blade will do just fine. When I look at al my other satin bladed knives even after a lot of use they do fine. And remember ZT knives are knives to use!

I've only ever scratched my satin finishes by slipping on a whet or water stone. And I've put them through a lot.

I ended up getting the 0562 in Elmax, and the 0620 in CF and M390.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will order the CF model, its just too gorgeous not to. I am still going to have to get the Elmax version later on, I've never used either steel so I want both. :D I'm glad I won't have to baby the satin blade. Thanks again for the help guys.

Just e-mailed ZT,
They said this:
'The Zero Tolerance 0562 CF is currently IN production and expected to be available later this summer'
So my guess is that it will be shipped around August.
They keep us waiting, but it will be one of the best looking knives ever!
