The Official ZT0562 Thread!! (FIRST LOOK)

I preordered a 0562CF, but the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to question what that knife could provide for me that my brand new 0561 can't. At the very least, the lack of a lanyard hole is a concern I have. I may end up passing on it when my email hits.

No you won't. You're gonna get it and you're gonna love it! (along with you 561) :)

So, the "slicer grind", first of all, I have no idea what that is. Just don't care. I mean, all my other knives slice things just fine, so maybe they ALL have "slicer grinds" and I didn't know it? Sweet! In which case, I'm covered.

Seriously? You like Hinderer designs and you don't know the difference between a Spanto grind and a Slicer grind? Hmmmm. Grasshopper have much to learn.

This will be the first knife I have preordered. So far no word on my 562cf preorder at the BladeHQ.

To be fair, I primarily enjoy the flipper and handle shape. LOL

I know what the Spanto blade-shape is. My $30 Thermite has it. I just had a quick look and see the slicer grind is some partial ffg looking thing. Looks an awful lot like the grind on another cheap Hinderer knife of mine, the Cryo 1*. Nifty!

*Pretty sure this is sacrilege, right?

I tried to resist... I was going to wait and join the fray for the CF version... Resistance is futile!

G10 version will be arriving at my door soon :)

At least the Cryo has a lanyard hole, right? ;)

LOL You know, I really, really don't like you.

To be honest, it's the wife's now. I ended up with the Cryo II just because it fit my hand better. That said, I have to recant my previous statements. I know full well I'll start seeing other peoples' pics of their 0562CFs and be pissed that I didn't get mine when I had the chance, so I'll probably end up buying it when I get the email. Hey, worst case, I'll let it go on the Exchange for what I paid for it at no harm, no foul.

I tried calling ZT to get a confirmation from them, but apparently their facility is closed due to weather.

So we think ONE online entity has actually received the 0562 (G10 model) and is shipping them out? And we have no word on the 0562cf?

Some of the G10 562's are available, no word on the CF version - at least from my seller.

The 0562cf will be regular production, so you don't need to feel compelled to get one as soon as they're released. I, for one, won't be buying one right away. So feel free to join me on the sideline if you like.

I'm amazed you're even considering it, given your affinity for lightweight EDCs.

So am I. It would end up being a safe queen, that's for sure. There's just so much value in the 0562CF compared to its progenitor that it's hard to resist.

There's a difference between an "inspired" design and a dead ringer. Until now, ZT knives featured blade lengths that fell in between the lengths that Rick uses on his XMs. So it could be argued that ZT knives weren't direct copies of XMs. But not anymore.

Obviously we'll have to wait and see how the 0562CF turns out. But if it lives up to its potential, it could end up being direct competition to the knife that spawned it. Throw in the 2 to 1 price ratio between an 0562CF and a 3.5" XM-18 with a slicer grind and it doesn't take a degree in rocket science to figure out which high-quality Hinderer-designed knife offers the better bang-for-the-buck for the average (i.e., non-military/LEO/EMT) consumer.

Frankly, I can't wait for the first side-by-side comparison of an XM-18 and an 0562CF. But this much I will tell you. If I was hanging onto a 3.5" XM-18 with a slicer grind for investment purposes, I'd darn well sell it before ZT turns up the heat. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the 0562CF puts some serious hurt on the secondary market for XMs. And who knows? Diverting money from the secondary market into his own pocket may have been Rick's goal all along in authorizing ZT to build the 0562CF. If that was his intention, I say more power to him.
