Red Rocks Canyons, Nevada, facing off with my friend Chris Caracci, for an article we were doing on tomahawk v. knife. That is my wallet in my back pocket. I did not sh*t myself because I was facing an ex-SEAL Team 6 guy staring me down with a hawk in his hand!

What an amazing thread. There are some truly awesome pics here, and I find myself itching to get out of the city and into the wilderness ASAP. Alas, these pics are as close as I'll get to the great outdoors for a few months.

Here are a few of my own, from a 2006 trip to the Caribou Mountains, in British Columbia. It was a fantastic trip, and the location (Wells Gray Prov. Park) is far enough off the beaten path that one can go for a two week canoeing / hiking trip and only see four other people the whole time.

Canoeing to our first camp, watching a storm blow in from the Southwest. This was taken in that brief window when the lake was perfectly still, before all hell broke loose.

Northern arm of Murtle lake; one of the most beautiful views I have had the privilege to look out on from a campsite.

At the Northernmost end of Murtle Lake, looking over the marsh. Grizzly country.

Obligatory gear shot of my BK-9. It had a thorough workout on this trip, including no small amount of chopping and batoning.

Here's the same BK-9, displayed beside dinner. Murtle Lake is known for excellent kokanee fishing.

My father and I, midway through the trip. It was the trip of a lifetime, and a much-needed recharge before I started work on my PhD.

One of those sunsets that makes you want to postpone returning to the city - for a few years.

Brian, it's a pleasure! Great forum, a lot to learn from nice people. I like this thread, hope it will grow up.

Luxurious accomodations. That water bottle works okay as a pillow but I'd prefer something a little softer like a cinder block... :D

Reading Mike's post below about letting the animals come to you brought this series to mind.

I was up in Zion NP early one morning and ran into a very relaxed herd of Bighorn. By just hanging out and not moving I was able to get some once in a life time shots. This was a really young group and there were at least 50 in the area.
