Hey gang, I recently made the trek from TN to TX for the birth of my sister's first baby, and while we were in the area I was able to find some time to visit the Abilene, TX State Park and take some photos. Hope you guys enjoy it!
First up, I would like to introduce you to Mr. Nash. My normal hiking buddy (Shiloh the beagle) got put up in the kennel for this trip. I figured my dog, plus their dog, plus all the people coming and going and the new baby was more trouble that I wanted to be blamed for! Nash is 105 pounds and still growing, just a big sweetheart that hasn't figured out just how big he is yet. Here he is next to my brother-in-law. The head on this dog is just massive. Nash was a welcome partner on our little adventure.
Just a disclaimer, no knife pron here. The other members of the group already thought I was weird enough for bringing 2 knives (a cheap folder and my wave) in addition to a flashlight and lighter on a day trip. Fortunately I didn't have to show them why that was a good idea.
The trail head where we started our little trip.
Cool looking tree.
We don't get these in TN too often, but they were all over the place here. What really amazed me is that some of them had been nibbled on by the deer. I guess I never really considered that something might actually munch on these spiky things.
We did venture off the trail in some places, and actually found this on a small game trail about 50 yards off the main trail. Other than it being a femur (right?) I'm not too sure what it is. I should have taken a picture of my hand or something next to it to give some perspective, but it was about 2 feet long.
There was a little debate about this particular leaf. The wife thought it looked like Mickey Mouse. I'll let you decide what the other option was!
There were these little bridges all over the place.
This is Mr. Nash asking politely to please be let into the water to play. His request was denied.
There were all kinds of cool flowers around.
Another view of the 'Buffalo Waller' that the dog was whining to get into. Personally I thought it would be a killer duck hunting pond if it was on private lands...
I'll continue some more pics in the next post here... hope you guys enjoy them, if not, too bad, I'm posting more anyway! (meant to be a joke!)
