The Old Rugged Victorinox Cross..... Pioneer content, grails and such.... Red Gold...

What is the "Soldier" blade?

numberedPio_zpsd2f64eff.jpg

Per the Swiss Army specs, the date had to be stamped on the blade...this was a blade intended for a '99 Vic Soldier. The standard Pioneer/Farmer blades had no date stamp. Sometimes when Vic ran short of the std blades, they substituted the Soldier blades on Pioneers/Farmers. Not real common but cool for a collector!

I've been watching this thread for a few days now and you guys have some of the most exotic and rare alox's I've seen. Keep them coming.

How are those kydex neck sheaths? I've always had concerns about using one.

They are very handy and extremely secure! I wear a lot of gym shorts so a heavy ALOX will weigh down my pocket...the neckers keep my knife accessible and there is never a worry that it will fall out of my pocket! Additionally, I have tied the lanyard to bag handles and pack loops/patches so they are handy in an emergency...ready to go right there on the gear bag/daypack. Substitute a shorter piece of paracord and you could wear it on your belt if you wanted to. Attaching the snap hook to the necker, I can carry house/farm keys easily (and keep from locking myself out)! :D

This is bad. Very bad. For me. Those all look so good. I only have a single silver Alox Farmer and some color would be so very nice.

I actually found myself missed the phillips screwdriver on the Farmer the other day when I needed to do something. Fortunately I had tossed the Swisschamp in with my bag. I wouldn't want to give up any of the other blades on the Farmer, but wouldn't mind a phillips in there too. Don't know where you'd put it, but...

I gotta stay away from this thread for a bit. Maybe after the yard sale that was supposed to be tomorrow, but getting pushed off a week due to weather. Maybe sell some of my accumulating stack of RRs and a few others and go hunting for colored alox. Fortunately I hear there is no closed season and no bag limit. My pocket may have a severe limit, but that don't mean there won't be targets and times of opportunity.

Loved some of the customs. Where do you get those done and is it terribly expensive? Or just normally expensive.

It ain't cheap. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...II-Alox-and-Ti-conversions-Pic-Heavy-examples

The greatness of the alox SAK's cannot be overrated. If we were not among the afflicted and obsessed knife knuts, an alox SAK like a pioneer or farmer would really be all the pocket knife a person needs. But then, we are the obsessed!:D
Hush you! :D

SAK's hold a special place in my heart, and the alox's are among the best. I've got the Farmer and Electrician, time to look for a Pioneer....

I've always used the small flat driver on the can opener for my philips. Works good inmost. If it's a very large phillips that rusted tight, I'll use the inner corner of the bottle opener screw driver to get it started.

+1 Works very well!

Unfortunately this was for the recessed phillips head screw on a quiver mount on a recurve bow. Neither of the other two would fit. One of those few times that you couldn't improvise with the others.

Ah well. There's a reason I toss that battered Swisschamp in a range bag or have a Trekker on me. I finally found a Trekker one hand opener (slow hand at that) with the plain blade. I already had one with the serrated blade that I kept in the saddlebag of my motorcycle. I've got the NS bladed on my belt in a horizontal mag pouch. Even though it has the saw (which is why I prefer the Farmer), I can't bring myself to swap out the Farmer. It this config keeps working by the time I can get my paws on a colored Alox I may opt for a Pioneer instead of the Farmer. So many possibilities. Yeesh.

Alright Woodrow I have been searching since your first post of that emerald pioneer. How did you find it? I have this great need to own that knife and have struck out everywhere I have looked.

Glassjaw, that one is tough to get. I learned about it from Alox World. That knife was made for the South African Market. At the time, I couldn't find any dealers who would ship outside of the country. A very nice fella gifted me two. One to collect and one to use. Feeling very lucky about the whole deal, I gave one away on here..... I gave the name, so searching for it will only lead you here.

Since all that transpired, I did find a dealer who changed their shipping policies and would ship internationally. I have not used them, but their website ends in .za instead of .com. They might have one.... they had other colors at one time too.

Since we are talking Alox, I figured I'd include the green Cadet.
