Does the maya dust work in a firepiston? Or are you just using that to catcn the coal?
The dust itself won't work in the piston, but putting the ember on a pile of tinder dust works quite well for growing the flame quickly, which can then be enhanced by putting a piece of fatwood on top for longevity while you get other tinder and kindling on top (and you can even use a tiny piece of the fatwood for your ember in the piston).

So, not the dust but a very small piece of the wood itself, thanks for the tip. I am going to have to try that!

All ya'll have a good evening, I will be posting up some more cool stuff for grabs tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who has participated in this deal. It has made me smile over and over to see what people are parting with, and seeing how happy people are to score some new gear. I got a sweet light from Chris Pierce and have been using it ouside all evening. This thread is great!

You're very welcome Whetstone. It's a beautiful knife and I hope you enjoy it. What surprised me the most about the RAT 1 is how well it holds up. I've had mine for about 2yrs now and after taking it apart and cleaning it a few weeks ago it's good as new. Really an amazing value.

I definitely will, think I am going to dress it up as well with a lanyard and bead.

NCCNC, if you end up making some more beads is it ok if i request one? If not no worries, just like the idea of adding a hand made bead to this Rat from someone participating in this thread.

The Craftsman wrenches have been claimed by NCCNC.
I've really enjoyed watching this thread!
If there's anyone out there sitting on the fence... Jump on in! The water is fine!:D

That sling is awesome, great work C_K, and congrats mykel!

I am really enjoying people posting pics of what they have picked up in the thread, great stuff, keep it coming!
Thanks Whetstone,CK makes a darn good sling and he can make 'em adjustable too.

I cant seem to catch any break on items. :)

Anyone have a good quality fixed blade with around 4-6 inch blade and plain edge? Dont really want any combo blade.

Hey sir_mike - i will be offering a good fixed blade tomorrow, it is unused but has some slight damage to the blade. Let's say around 2:00 tomorrow CST. It is 154cm, has a convex edge, and a leather sheath. Maybe 3 or 4 months old, never used but again some slight damage to a single part of the blade. Definitely worth looking at, check back about then

I wish I could have gotten my hands on the Manix xl lol

It went to a good home, Packna has assured us he will use the crap out of it! Regarding the GAW tomorrow, it is definitely worth it. A great knife, but I messed up and dropped it against something more resilient than 154cm. Again i have a BUNCH more to give, this thread is amazing!

Its not much but i have some paracord keychains if anyone wants one. I have a bunch of colors so just email and we can work something out. Just want to contribute to this awsome thread!

I'm glad it went to a good home, he better post some action shots tho, I'm interest to see what it can do :D This thread is awesome, I'm glad I can be part of it. I'm still looking for cool stuff I can put up so I should have some more up in the future

Okay. Two items special to me because...

1) Timber Rattler giant novelty knife - This was purchased by a friend of mine and given to me as a gift and they truly thought it was a great find and I could find uses for it. As a show of good will, I insisted that they trade it to me for a spare Blur I had and after carrying and using that Blur, they then began to appreciate how carrying a pocket knife comes in handy every day. It represents friendship and enlightenment and has been a source of smiles whenever I look at it, but it is time for it to move on. As a gag gift or even using it to clean underneath your fingernails when the daughter's boyfriend shows up at the house, I think someone will enjoy it from this point on.

2) *SPOKEN FOR* Bucklite III 426 Orange - Of all the orange knives I have since brought into the "orange" collection, this was really one of the first. It was affordable, it is a Buck and the fact that it was orange was only a triple bonus at that point. Yes, I am an admitted collector and have more than I could use in a lifetime but it makes me happy to have the users in rotation and a few that I simply admire and enjoy owning. If it becomes a user, then so be it. That's what it was meant for. If it sparks another orange addiction then that's great too!

US50 only though, as I cannot send anything needing a customs form and please don't have me send an 11 inch bladed knife to a state that would more than frown upon it. Thanks and enjoy!

Id like the Giant Timber Rattler knife if it isnt spoken for, i know someone who might get a kick out of it!

If anyone has a nice, medium sized fixed blade, with a kydex sheath (optional)
something like 154cm, I will most definitely give my DLC Manix 2 to a good home on here!
(That way I'll have something to conceal carry until its replacement comes)
A knife for a knife, a smile for a smile. Kindness is always repaid.

I'm going to ask fur this of it hasnt been claimed yet

In Also not much in the way of flashlights either, as in, I don't have one lol. Other than my multitool, SDI if this is still up, I'll take it

stvpourciau, The head lamp is yours. just email me your information.

If anything comes up I would love the Manix :D So could i have dibs on it if you get a fixed blade? If not then thats fine :)

I have another request. All this talk about the ontario rat-1, I know how great they are but I've never even held one.

This might be a little long, and lame to some of you but please stick with me:

Well some of you may have read about my father and how he passed just over a year ago, (9/28/12, I was only 25 at the time and literally held his hand when he took his final breath 3 nights after being diagnosed)

Well he left several knives and I of course feel a deep connection with most of them and no matter how little use I may get, or how not my style they are they're still some of my most prized pieces. I do however have one rather interesting (and disco'd) model called the Victorinox Fireman that not only will I never use it but I don't ever once remember seeing dad use or carry it, it looks almost unused and I feel my dad would rather me use it to barter for something I would use than just leave it sit around since its one of the few things from him I don't have much emotional attachment to. Honestly I won't use any of the knives I have of his (except for the one fillet knife from his tackle box I restored and now use) so if I could get a knife that somehow meant something, or was connect to him that I would actually carry and use I'd really feel a connection with it even tho he never touched it.

What i'd like to do- I'd like to either trade directly with someone, my fathers Vic Fireman (older two-hand open) for a ontario RAT-1 or do it the pay-it-forward way, either way I would know I'm giving this old knife of my fathers to someone (along with this story) who would use it and in turn will receive a knife that represents my father I can carry and use in his spirit.

One final thought: some of you guys are so kind and compassionate I might even get an offer of a rat without being asked to send the fireman in return (or send it on to someone else) because it was my fathers, well if I can find a rat that will be in memory of him I'd actually prefer that his old SAK go to someone (along with this story) who can really use it, that would be more honoring of him than if it just sits in my knife box, like I mention I have other knives of his that mean more to me and I would never part with.

*If this request is inappropriate I will quickly remove it and post a normal WTT at a later date, sorry if it is.
