The One and Only 0777

Thanks Thomas, Ric Flair is the man (was?...nah still is) He can't stay out of the game though. He's a lot different from some wrestlers who die really young with all sorts of crippling ailments.

I guess he knows how to break-fall pretty good. One of his patented moves I liked was him getting a delayed knockout shot.

Okay enough about Ric. I can't wait for the one and only ZT0777! :D

I just discovered this knife the other day and was blown away. I received my first ZT knife a couple of months ago (0550) and was trying to figure out what my second one would be when I found the 0777. I've pre-ordered one and now the wait begins. Is there an ETA for when the 0777 will be released?

It should be out pretty soon now. They have selected the final steels and might even being assembling as we speak.

I was able to handle ZT0777 #1 at Blade -

I am even more impressed now that I have had a chance to handle the knife.

It is so light - it is light for any knife, let alone a knife of this size!

I thought my Tilt was light for it's size!

Here is a pic next to a Tilt

Awesome! I suspect it will be coming soon, but like I discussed with Thomas; It'll be here when it gets here - good enough!

I am currently selling my only Microtech knife to get a ZT, and I'll never buy another MT.

That 777 looks so classy, like a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda gone cutlery.

I think Thomas said that the internal parts needed to make an OTF auto will not stand up to their quality controls, so until something changes, its a no go.

regardless of whether it's fair, I think they hold themselves to a higher standard

The thing is that if kershaw released that OTF it is absolutely in no way shape or form hurting Tonys business or infringing on his intellectual property. Tony didnt invent the Dual action OTF and the design of his internals is the same mechanism thats been around for over 50 years. Its probably made of better and thicker materials but for tony to act like the dual action OTF is his sole intellectual property makes me sick. Sure, his company may be one of the main reasons for the designs resurgence to popularity but that doesnt give him the right to say that no one else can make an OTF knife. And on top of that Kershaw didnt make a 1 for 1 copy of ANY mt knife. They did an exact carbon copy of the 0777 and then says Kershaw did the right thing for not releasing the OTF. Now if Tony simply came out with a bearing operated flipper that would be one thing. But to make a 1 for 1 put him at a whole new low.

But the thing is it doesnt surprise me. This isnt the first time tony has blatantly ripped off another design without apology. And it surely wont be the last. Its so hard to keep politics out of the knife game. But honestly in this case i just cant let it go. That whole debacle is why I simpy wont buy another M/T knife again unless its used. I know that the only real outcome to that decision is that I limit the knives I will buy but I still have to stand by what I believe in. And you know what, even if KAI decides not to release an OTF there are plenty of others to choose from.

He did say something to that effect. Id like to know which part they were having problems with. If I had to guess its the clips that hold the main firing springs. There are ways to redesign them so that they are more sturdy. The Clips in a tumult is a perfect example of how to make them without them failing. They are bent thick gauge steel sheet metal. They dont have any tabs to sheer and break off and with their larger surface area they absorb more shock than the cast parts.

There is a seller on ebay who has a posting for the 0777 who claims that he has been notified that he will get these in sometime next week. He is selling them for $700... Ouch! Glad I got my pre-order in and if this is true, the anticipation of getting mine is killing me. Such a beautiful knife and I know it will be buttery smooth like my Tilt... and at half the price of what those microthefts are going for. Kershaw/ZT, please continue producing awesome knives with composite blades and carbon fiber handles!

That might not be right to sell a product that hasn't been released yet??

I agree cziv, but it is exciting if it's true that it will be released next week. Not sure if the seller has legit information because I think Thomas might have given a heads up on the forum. I know what I will be dreaming of tonight :)

What is the approximate expected date the 0777 will be out (or the pre-order deadline)? Thanks to the gratuitous knife porn at the Blade show I've been persuaded to buy my first 2 ZT knives ASAP. If I have time to save & it's not too late the 0777 will make it 3.

Who knows, I'll say this though, I have never anticipated a knife more so than this [perhaps since my pre-order is number 53 or something with a dealer, and thats not the best number given the numbers and the anticipation of this knife all over]. So I have had like all the knife store sites i could find, and refresh them almost hourly/whenever i have a chance lol. I know, i have a disease, only one item can cure it, triple seven heaven! [Yea yea corny as heck x.x lol]

Haha, Ric Flair! I was totally going to compare Thomas brilliant wordplay to the great Mohammed Ali, who was surely Flair's influence when it comes to trash talk . Anyways, way to go Thomas! I also really giggled at the "ankle-biter" comment, well done, Sir! I really wish I had a 077 preordered, alas, I do not. I hope I can still manage to get one. And I will never buy a MT, under any circumstances. My friend has a bunch & while a couple seem to be well built, all of their designs are clearly marketed towards the silly-ass mall ninja crowd. No thanks. Keep up the good work, Kai!

In a perfect world, MT would just spend their time refining what they could do best - otf auto's. I got one last summer - as a b'day gift from my wife. It is an orange plain black d/e (S35VN) Ultratech hand picked by me from the dealer's stock for proper operation. Therein is the rub... several just didn't behave properly. I decided against the purchase - my wife, standing behind me, signaled the salesman to hold it for her. It was a kindness on her part - and a weird knife I cannot take in my pocket most places. I hate to say it, as I love Benchmades, but it does function better than the few Infidels I've tried. I am not a knife businessman - but it would seem the better part of valor to just work at perfecting what niche you already have in the marketplace - and, perhaps, just quit moving around - figuratively and physically.

PS I'll come clean... I have a vested interest in their survival... I will likely need their CS department one day!
