Actually, on second thoughts, maybe a bigger blade ain't all that...

A medium size would still handle any chopping tasks very well, but would also manage the finer work much better...

What about the good old Badger!

The Badger is great, but in a survival situation I would want to accomplish the hardest tasks with ease and if I botch a filet job then so be it. I think the bigger the better IMHO. It really boils down to what blade can you do everything with

I would want a knife that can also do the fine work and a coating would be good in the wet so I might choose my muddy mojo. It has serrations, moderate chopping ability and it's light enough to carry all day.

wow looks like most are going with some sort or FSH or FBM. thats what i was thinking to. I have a custom shop hogfsh with a dangler and a back sheath. I had all my knives out trying to decide what im taking to Alaska. I can only take one for im not risking any of my knives being confiscated or stolen. So im either gonna go with the Hogfsh or get a Fbm what do yall think. And where im going ill be using it alot for everything, firewood, preparing game, building shelter, fondling, haha, gotta have something pretty with me. Anyways thanks yall for answering so quickly

While not exactly a toss up I hope that I at least have my Game Warden Fatty (EDC), but if I had to choose it would when I was put in a survival situation I would want my FFBM.

Kazar and GregS have both a Battle Mistress, because it's the only blade able to resist to a T.Rex.

I want a Battle Mistress like GregS !!!!!!

In a true survival situation I would have to go with something along the lines of a NW SAR 5. Hefty enough to baton wood but small enough to clean some bluegill or squirrel/rabbit sized game, which is probably what a lot of your meals would consist of, I can't see a need, at least in these parts, to have to chop big trees for survival. Plenty of smaller stuff lying around already for fires and shelter. Just my .02 cents.

well, since this is Busse, I'd say my SARSquatch:

For you guys with survival kits on the sheath like this: the virtue of the battle mistress is you have a lot more real estate to hang your survival kit off of. With a SARsquatch, you can hang a pouchoff the sheath, with a BM, you can hang a backpack off the sheath. :D

You have a very valid point. 80 percent of the time you probably will not need a large knife for the above mentioned reason. What happens when you run into the 20 percent situations where there no small stuff laying around or if you need to build shelter in a hurry because of bad weather conditions.

I personally would want as big a knife that I can comfortably carry for a extended amount of time in a SHTF scenario. The reason is because it will most likely be my single most important tool other than my brain. A big knife can always do small knife tasks but not the other way around.

yea and then limp around with 55 pounds on your leg lol.

Ban you do make a point to. so im thinking the Hogfsh is the perfect blade. thick and juicy with enough girth to take down a oak lol. and doesnt weigh 30 pounds.
