The One Busse!

the weight issue is why I said the SARSquatch, it's a pretty light blade(as far as Busse knives go) and will hold it's own with blades 2-3" longer. It's a beast of a knife

You have a very valid point. 80 percent of the time you probably will not need a large knife for the above mentioned reason. What happens when you run into the 20 percent situations where there no small stuff laying around or if you need to build shelter in a hurry because of bad weather conditions.

I personally would want as big a knife that I can comfortably carry for a extended amount of time in a SHTF scenario. The reason is because it will most likely be my single most important tool other than my brain. A big knife can always do small knife tasks but not the other way around.

Very true Ban! Of course I would never be with only one knife in a survival situation anyway if at all possible. I always carry a pocket knife that would work well for cleaning game and so forth, so maybe a larger chopper would be the ticket for the Busse angle...

yea thats why i was trying to make it tricky for ya. of course im gonna take my sebenza and strider folder with me but i was wondering what yall would do with only one knife.

hahaha.... now you guys are cheating.

I too would most probably have a multi-tool and a smaller fixed blade of some sort on me.:D

yea one busse knife. no more no less. no other pocket or tools. just one blade and the wilderness. we can go all day talking about what we would all take and all the tools and knives. but im talking one knife big or little to do everything.

OK then, if it was in my area, I'm still picking the NW SAR5 :D

My choice= HOFSH, multi tool, BAD... and I never leave the house without my Severtech. :D Thats a little more than one though...

Jokes about hanging backpack survival kits off the sheath aside, I still think the FBM makes the best choice (not arguing with anyone, just my perspective). Yes, it's not light, but if you carry it in something like a baldric rig, you (at least I) hardly notice the weight. It gives the advantage of handling the lower probability needs of the large blade, can be pressed into service for the work of a smaller blade, and also has the advantage of reach in a defend-your-life scenario. Not only against humans, but also feral animals which are equipped with bitey-scratchy apparati that humans aren't.

I think the key to a survival [insert object] is to cover as many bases as possible. While self defense may not be a high probability event, it is one that, if it happens, you're really screwed if your ill-prepared for it.

In my opinion, the problem is : where is this survival situation? Desert? Jungle? North pole? Foreign big town?

Different man, different knfe : ok.

But different survival situation, different knife too.

A FBM in a town? No.

A GameWarden in a rainforest jungle? It's better than nothing, but I prefer a bigger blade.

What are the locals tools? What do they use to survive in their biotope?

Another vote for a Heavy Heart...!!
