I don't think we have had this topic before, but I didn't actually search to make sure. I thought of it because of a nice sword and en suite dagger pair that I acquired at the Last two consecutive blade shows. The pair was made by Jim Hrisoulas, if you are particularly interested you can see the thread in the sword sub forum.

That reminded me though that years ago, probably around 1999 or 2000, a big Hrisoulas hand and a half sword came up on the sword forum classified section. I think it was billed as a Swiss Bastard Sword. The asking price was 800 bucks. I think I even had the money, but I dilly rallied around and someone else didnt. They got the sword and I got the regret. That has to be more than two decades ago and it still aggravates me. How about you? What was the one you should have bought but didn't? Which one did you have and foolishly sold?

Ughhhh. Many, but the standouts are a Trace Rinaldi Sharktooth and LEO. I had both and let em go thinking I could get em again if I wanted to.

Makers pass on, and I found that out the hardest of ways. RIP, Trace.

Oh dang. I did that too except with a Marzitelli piece that I didnt own but thought I could always buy eventually. Turns out that wasn't true. I ended up paying a retarded amount on the secondary market about a decade or so later.

Won it for $25, but had to sell for surgery. Think I got 800 or 900 for it.
 
I sold my Behemoth Chopper with custom Mikael leather sheath for $700 back in 2019, thinking I could get another. CPK has really taken off since then and I can’t get another one, not for that price anyway.
 
I stupidly let my original BM AFCK go many many years ago. I didn't know what I had...ahhh, to be young and dumb:rolleyes:
 
I had a chance to get a Randall 16 special fighter a few years ago for a decent price.. But since I was moving back overseas, I had to let it pass.. Still kicking myself in the @ss for passing on this deal
 
I used to waste a lot of time staring at the sale forums on this site. There were several times I almost pulled the trigger. Later I would see the price was reduced to an even better deal. Of course, the "sold" sign always came up.
 
U.S. Knifemakers Guild Show 1987 in Dallas, Texas.

Bob Egnath had a perfect Tanto on his table. I picked it up, considered it and put it down on the table........As I put it down the guy next to me said "I'll take it."😳

I never saw one of Bob's knives as nice as that again.😖

In my 20's I sold some irreplaceable treasures for financial reasons. It had to be done and I did it, but man I wish I still had those.

That said I am unbelievably fortunate to have some absolutely amazing pieces.🙂

 
2015 bought my 1st Randall #1Fighter w/ black&brass spacers,brass cap&graphite colored mcarta handle. About 2months later found a #2 on "the bay of fleas" w/ same options& blade length @ 800$ + watched it for about 10 days whilst deciding to buy or not( nearly twice what I paid for the #1) while I was snoozing it sold. Haven't seen another#2 set up the same
 
I owned a titanium Spyderco Military and sold it. In hindsight, that knife is pretty much perfect for me. They've been discontinued for some time now, and I ponder my regret often.
 
Not as fancy but the Spyderco Slysz Bowie. I really liked it's look when it came out and I even found it in a knife store, when one was still around. I picked it up and i couldn't disengage the frame lock. I got the impression that they'd all be just as finicky. Regardless, I passed it up. For some reason tho, I'd still like to have it in my collection today. Even tho I now find it ugly...

An Egnath that got away... Ouch! The piece pictured is a beauty though!
 
I didn’t know if “got away” is the term I’d use but I had a chance to buy a beautiful stag handled Loveless Drop point Hunter made in his Riverside shop but the seller knew what he had and I’m just a poor country boy.
As a side note Im guessing a large percent Loveless knives on the market today are sadly counterfeit, the one I was looking at might have been one as well. If there’s money to be made some one will take the risk.

Got away >> I was at the NY Custom Knife show in the late 1990's and Bob Loveless was sitting in a corner with 2 knives on his table - a stag hunter and stag skinner. I had the opportunity to buy a stag hunter from Bob himself for $2000. I could swing the money - but at the time I had never paid more than $500 for a knife. stepped away and got a cup of coffee - deliberated for 15 min and decided to buy. When I returned to Bob's table they were both gone.

Regret >> At one time I had a large sebenza, small sebenza and Mnandi all in bark mammoth ivory. Also had a gold coin large sebenza >> sold them when I needed some extra money. Talk about regret.
