Very nice thawk!

I'm new to the Stockman club, I now have two of them (Northfield #66 Calf Roper and the Case large Stockman). I've been very happy with both and grown to love the pattern now. These three blade configurations are perfect to me.

Those old classics you have are fascinating to examine.

Somebody did something pretty naughty with this old feller at some point. Not sure what flavor it even is because the markings are pretty toast. Great knives everyone, y'all are really making me jealous of all the Queens and Gec's. That Queen zebrawood really is stellar. Thanks for contributing folks!

I'm getting out of work right now, wait until I get home. I'll take a pic before my trip this evening, I'll have service but I will be doin' a little bit of vacation downy ocean.

Let's see, I've got an old Boker, a Queen cattle king, a GEC Abilene. A whole ton of others. Please count me in. If it wasn't for the Zulu or peanut, the stockman would be my favorite pattern.

Maybe this would be a great place to ask, I think I want to try a medium (somewhere between these two, 2.75" to 4.25") stockman. I like the blades to sit low, especially the sheepfoot/wharnecliffe. I also wouldn't mind a punch instead of the spey. I prefer American (and within that I prefer Pennsylvania) made, but like some foreign value knives. I can go with stainless or carbon, but don't like the #cr##mov type stainlesses. I also don't mind the cigar type (cattle knife?). Any of you much more knowledgeable and versed stockman enthusiasts have suggestions? I'd really appreciate it!

I have the perfect suggestion for you. The 6318PU in Amber Bone or the 3318PU in Yellow delrin. It has CV blades and a SS punch. 3.5" closed. Can be had for around $35 if you look around. The clip blade is a muskrat or california clip so it rides low and I filed the kick down on the Sheepfoot on mine so all the blades nestle as slimly as possible while still allowing enough room to pinch the nicks. Here's a stock image for now. If I get a chance I'll replace it with my own. Anyways I think it fits your bill to the T.

That's a good looking Stockman Lemmy. Amber bone is fast becoming a fav here. CV blades and a SS punch?

Thanks a lot! You're right, looks very promising

I also wondered why that choice

Yeah I'm not really sure why, but maybe it has to do with the fact that your not likely to be sharpening it as much as the other blades? Or maybe they just didnt see the point in machining cv punches and happened to have the stainless ones on hand? Total conjecture. But I actually really like the look of the contrast between the patinad CV and the shiny stainless.

The BUCK at the top is the last of that 'full-size' I hav yet to re-home, LOL.
Pics 3 & 4 show the much higher level of fit on it they did in '86 (1st year mf'd by Buck),
than they do now. Last pick is sized-up next to my EDC 373.

Just ordered a queen cattle king. I've become very intrigued with d2, having never owned a blade in that steel before. I would love to see pics of this knife in comparison to other stockmans.

There is, after all, only one "Cattle King"

Center row. Third from top.
4" Queen stockman knives above.
3 1/2" Winchester (Queen) stockman below

Here's a better comparison shot showing the Cattle King on the top and the 4" stockman just below. The "King" is well named...

WOW - what a picture ~ P. - the shield is just super on that one !:thumbup::)

Thanks! Once I knew the knife was on its way to me, I bought the Twizzlers in anticipation. :D

The shield is also a favorite favorite. GEC calls it their "short run shield," and there's no telling where it might show up. I first saw it on a purple half-whit (I believe). Gunstock Jack (Barry) has a delectable green bone Calf Roper sporting the same shield.

This is one of my most photogenic knives....

But beyond its purty looks, it's a mighty fine tool. I love the #66 serpentine frame, and the three useful blades fit neatly inside it. All are comfortable in use.

Ooh, la. I do believe this one's going back in-pocket on the morrow.

Frank, you might be right on that, that Queen is calling my name. Pertinux, beautiful knife there, really liking that bone jigging.
