The Oregon Knife Show, 2023!!!

Luger1952 Luger1952 - Lloyd Thanks for posting those great pictures!!
You took me right back there!!! It was the greatest Oregon show in the past 25 years, in my book!! What a wonderful group of people!!

On a sad note; Barry's truck broke down expensively, and he missed the show!! Next year, Barry!!!

That is a real nice one Charlie, can see why you are so pleased with it!

Well- That Oregon Show must have been a great one for you to say it was the best one in 25 Years Charlie! It is very nice seeing familiar faces in the photos and getting to see others who I haven't seen yet!

I managed to pick up two great knives in the USA today, which I acquired in Oregon this year! The thrill of finding a couple of GECs from 2007 is overwhelming!! Bill's first full year of production, after opening the doors in 2006!! The first is a #73 Scout with Pioneer Bone handles!!! Sweet example!!!Oregon 2023 Scout 73.jpgOregon 2023 Scout 73 A.jpg
I love the stout springs of Bill's early knives!!! The second knife - make sure you are sitting down!! Genuine Stag #53 Cuban!!! I believe it's number 006 of 37!!Oregon Cuban 2007 1.jpgOregon Cuban 2007 2.jpg
Not only was the Stag exceptional for this run, but it's one of the first knives that Bill made without a shield!!! He saved some great Stag, IMO!!! I just about keeled over when I was shown this knife!!
Thanks Dale (Orvet)!!!

Amazing knives ! Spooky skull rock : )

Hey!!!! I LOVE that Skull Rock ^^ :)

I think my Knees would have given out a little as well Charlie- Wow!!!!
That Stag is stunning, the Pioneer Bone is awesome as well- gee - look at that one of 350 - yet there may be a few Queens stashed somewhere- but I wonder where all the users are now? we just do not see the early GEC's out there all that often do we?

Nice showing Charlie- and good on you Dale for being able to let these go!

I traded these from the fine folks at "Shepherd Hills" Case dealership!!
I've spent a lot of money in that store in Lebanon. But frankly seeing all the stuff they had for Case made me realize just how much Case had bought into what I call the "beany baby marketing plan"; they make a lot of minor differences to build a "collector" market and put less effort into making a better product. Just think what Case would be if every knife they made was as good as the Bose collaborations. Those would actually be worth collecting.

I do wish I'd been able to make the Oregon show. I missed it so much during the past few years. But I used to do Blade every year and I miss that too. Things change...

If every knife was like their Bose line, “Case would be”… out of business since most buyers couldn’t afford them.

Your “collector market” complaint about Case is as old as at least the 1980s. Just because they have variations on a pattern, doesn’t mean the knife is low quality. Case serves many consumer’s needs from the yelllow handled Slimline Trapper at $44 in CV steel to the $110 Slimline Trapper in stag and stainless steel. The $44 model will not have the same F&F as the $110 version, but they both cut and at $44 it is not as painful to lose :)

Comparing Case to Beanie Babies is unfair.

I don’t know much about how the Oregon Knife Collector’s Association is run, but things don’t sound good for future of the Oregon show. 🙁

Of course, I was planning on going for the first time next year. 😐

I went several years ago and it was packed. It’s sad to see that this may be the end 😟. I to was planning on going to the next one as my brother lives in central Oregon.

This was posted on the OKCA FB page yesterday by Hannah Morgan interim board member.

9/20/2023 OKCA Club Meeting Summary

Hi Everyone,
Tonight was the first regular Club meeting since the September Newsletter came out. I know many people have been concerned about what that means for the Club and the Show, so here’s a brief summary of what happened at tonight’s meeting.
After 47 years, Dennis and Elayne Ellingsen officially tendered their resignations, effective immediately, from the Board of Directors. Long time Vice President, John Priest, also stepped down. We’re all so grateful for everything they’ve done for the Club and the knife community as a whole.

As a result of their departures, 3 Interim Board Members were elected by unanimous vote by the attending voting members this evening. They are: Susan Goddard, myself- Hannah Morgan, and Lisa Wages, who has been a great asset to the Club for many years by managing this page. These Interim Board Members will serve until the regular annual elections take place at the January 2024 Club Meeting. Joshua Hill, long time Master-at-Arms, was moved to the position of Vice President.

Club President, Craig Morgan, spoke to the group and conveyed that it is the Board’s goal to continue the Club and the April Show to the best of its abilities. This is a period of huge transition and lots of things need to be worked out. Please bear with us while we regroup. We will stay transparent and update as often as we can.
The Newsletter will most likely be redesigned during this period and may need to be shortened to critical information only for the time being.

A lot has been happening very quickly, and we are trying to regain footing as a Club. Please be patient, but know that we are working toward the common goal of continuing the Show. There is still hope by this new Board that there will be an April Show. It is looking like there will NOT be a December Mini-Show in 2023.

Please share this information with other members you know, who may not be a part of this group, and encourage them to join. We will be receiving the mailing and email lists very soon to get out vital information until the new Newsletter is up and running.
If you have any questions or comments, please drop them below. As you can imagine, we don’t have many answers right now. Things are in transition and subject to change, but we will do our best.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to this new chapter!

Best regards,
The OKCA Board

I hope the April Show at least can keep going. I love the show, and I get to see a lot of very familiar faces. It always happens around my daughter's birthday, and it is something we enjoy doing together.
