The other Cade

Nasty: I believe you mean the HS2000. I wish I had bought a dozen when they were $220 bucks.
Spectre: I think knife fighting is a bad idea too. It is however, an enlightening experiance.. I would consider my record to be 0W-1L-3D

My observations:

1: Your knife is NEVER long enough.
2: Your knife is NEVER fast enough.
3: A knife used for fighting should not have a protruding gaurd on the spine side of the blade. After losing a thumbnail (to my knife) and an eye (to his) I decided to do a little reading on the subject and found that Col.Applegate agreed with me. :D
4:A fighting knife should have a very agressive grip, it WILL get slick in your hand.
5:You cannot WIN a knifefight.....but you can LOSE one.
6:Don't turn around and walk away from a meth-head will a kitchen knife. He might try to cut your head off.

...I got dozens of these things :-)

If I can't ever connect with a Fallkniven I'll probably opt out for a Bark River one of these days. I don't know how the A2 will compare with the VG10 but ya *Just* gotta love convex ground knives.:D

Bark River...very good.....Northstar....excellent knife....MikroII... great..highly reccomended by me!

Guys it was probably where I saw the owner say he was going to quit and get out of the business before I saw where he said he was selling out. Generally the first bit of info sticks with me.
Then Hell's Belle's maybe it was him saying he was going out of business if he xouldn't sell, y'all know how my short term memory is. :o :(

Sorry fer gettin y'all upset.;) :)
Has anybody seen or heard what is going on with Fallkniven lately anyway? Have they indeed sold out?

Uwinv, didn't think about the origin of the two brands. And of course you are right. :D
I know I love the D2 I got in my Queens Trapper and D2 and A2 are pretty close aren't they?
Hell once you get past 1095 you're still in the exotic line of steels IMO and in reality for the average user like me can't see a lot of difference between the different grades anyway ecept in the degree of hard to sharpen the dayumed thang. ;) :D

HD *that* is a good looking knife indeed!!!! :D

Sam a knife without an extended guard at the top is why I've always favored the Marble's Woodcraft. Too short for a really good fighter by of legal length and not too apt to raise the eyebrows of the sheeple. There's been at least one Marble's Woodcraft with a provenace of being carried as a combat knife. :D ;)

I have one on the Case Bowie's, similar to the Western Bowie that the good Colonel recommends cutting the top guard off and smoothing.
I don't like my Case Bowie though because it has that damned brass strip along the back, maybe it's good and maybe it's not and I hope to never find out if possible.:( :grumpy:

How amenable is HI to custom work?

Say if I sent them a tracing of a blade shape....

Sam, how's your carving ability? The HI kamis don't work well with drawings or even verbal instructions, however with a model they will (mostly) get the first one *Spot On* the next ones are liable to have small *improvements* made to the basic model. ;) :D
Actually a wooden model carved *Exactly* to the profile you want and then painted to reflect the type of furniture you want on it is best.
Include every little thing including the rivets painted on if it's going to be a chiruwa style versus a hidden tang.
Also paint the tang at the side of the handle so there won't be any mistakes.
The damned kamis like to second guess and improve our work, speaking from experience here...:(

But sometimes they *will* catch something you missed and the *improvement* will be just that!!!! :D

You would be taking your chances.

The blacksmiths are half a world away and speak a different language. Some of the people here (including me) have had custom work done. Mine have always come back within specs but that does not seem to be the rule.

Bark River makes GOOD knives!

A2 is used by Cris Reeves for his fixed-blade knives and is/has been used by other "name" makers (Greco, Busse).

No...original stuff is sometimes done depending on Yangdu and what's going on in Nepal. It's just that the kamis are for the most part illiterate even in their own language and a model is the best way to go. You'll need to coordinate with Yangdu...you might want to do that before putting the effort into the model as sometimes timing is key.

What'cha got in mind?

Welcome to the kuku's nest Sam!

Uncle Yvsa, I like A2 alot. It reminds me of O1 with an attitude; it takes a finer edge in my experience than D2. Of course, ymmv, with different heat treating and all. Also, A2 rusts alot easier than D2.

I have a D2 Ka-Bar impact that I have been prety impressed with as far edge holding ability goes, but I just can't seem to cotton to the handle shape.
