The Otley Run - Giveaway (The Run is now done)

i would love to live in otley because i had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before i went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing hallelujah.

"And if you tell young people that today, they won't believe you."

But
I would love to live in Otley because I imagine there is sword-dancing nearby.

I would love to live in Otley, because...I could meet the fella that I received this fine knife from.

Thanks for the chance!
I would love to live in Otley because few things are more fun than tricking drunken adults into believing things, and assuming there are, the bar fights would be quite a spectacle to watch.

Thanks a lot for entering fellers, the replies so far have had me in stitches, thanks for entering into the spirit of things :)

i would love to live in otley because of this picture:

SOMEBODY has bothered to make the most of Otley. That pic looks like a Godly hand is about to come through the clouds. Locals like to refer to Yorkshire as "God's Own County"! :D

They have rocks?

I'm afraid those skillfully photographed rocks as actually quite small P, but there are plenty of great rocks not too far away, with decent rock-climbing (though in my opinion nothing to compare to the Derbyshire gritstone edges of say Stanage or Froggatt).

"I would love to live in Otley because....well i've never heard of it, would love to see england in my lifetime and i would just LOVE to hear an englishman call someone a bloody wanker ...in authentic british accent" But now i think i wanna hear (after reading one of your stories) a native british person call another person a chuff :D

:D I have to say that I think my favourite accent for the first piece of abuse is probably the Australian accent, works really well! :D Chuffs is an old South Yorkshire slang-word you don't really hear much anymore, though the related phrase 'Chuffin 'ell' is a bit of a comedy staple.

I have read your tales of Otley, and I cannot possibly utter the words:“I would love to live in Otley, because I want to meet the guys in the picture captioned "The stranger has come for our crochet-hooks.” I especially love the young guy on the left. I have met the other guys many times after dark, but never in Otley.

That pic is from the film American Werewolf in London Mike, it's from The Slaughtered Lamb! :D The chap on the right is Brian Glover, an ex school teacher and ex-professional wrestler, whose appeared in many films. Most notable Ken Loach's Kes, and bizarrely, in Aliens 3! :)

I´d like to live there because of the english tea, Fish and Chips, Single Malt etc etc etc...

Don't say that to any Scotsmen Andi! :D

that prompts the question -whats the weather like in your part of the world?

Yes, only another nine months of rain to go here now, unless we get another 'Summer' like the previous one! :(

I had an American lad who stayed in my spare room for a couple of months about 9 or 10 years ago (was just doing him a favour putting him up), forget where he was from, but it must have been somewhere pretty dry. When the Autumn (Fall) came, and the cold wet weather began, he thought it was just a bad week. I had to break the bad news to him that that was it until next year, when we'd maybe get the odd day of sunshine! :D In fact the weather is worse than ever here :(

I'd love to live in Otley on the odd days of sunshine.

OK, entry #2...
I would love to live in Otley because then I could go on a pub crawl or three and try to learn the meaning of the phrase "Bob's your Unkle"

Thanks again for the chance :)

Entry 2
I would love to live in Otley because the arcade shops remind me of Nickel's Arcade in dear old Ann Arbor.
Must be good football country.

Entry #2

I´d like to live in Otley, because of the pic with the rocks and low hills that look like in Lower Bavaria (and the fog in some seasons) ;) ... and also I could open a typical bavarian restaurant there... :p

@jack: No, I´d never let this a scottsman know... but England has also great distilleries, too ;)

Funny thread, and great "blind" giveaway :) so I'm in!

I would love to live in Otley because...I may get the chance to get a Chippendale...

Second post, I would love to live in Otley because my family name is of Scottish descent, and I would love to learn about it. Belonged to the Royal House of Graham I believe.

Cheers,
Connor

I'd love to live in Otley because I've always wanted to go I England, and my family is from Wales, albeit 190 years ago........

Huh this is a fun idea for a contest. I would love to live in Otley because I would'nt be able to hear my wife from there!

Oh, and because in tired of playing div 3 mens rugby, I want to play ball with real men!

be very careful what you wish for there brother. Welsh rugby fans are seriously hardcore-fact -during the 2003 rugby world cup a Welsh fan said that if Wales didn't win he would cut his testicles off. They didn't . He did.
