The Perfect Swiss Army Knife?

Victorinox Compact. Everything I ever use, all in a pocket-happy two layers. I even like the pen, because I feel naked without one, and it's nice to have a backup (yes, in case the others fall out of my pocket protector, okay?).

I have carried a Victorinox Huntsman for years. About two years ago, I asked for, and received, a Huntsman Lite as a gift. The LED is kind of cool, and comes in handy, although the batteries do need to be changed every 4 to 6 months and it is REALLY pushing the limit for in-pocket carry. But the ballpoint pen, steel pin, and in-line phillips blade are almost as useful as the light itself. I think if they added these features to the regular Huntsman and ditched the light, I'd be all over it!

Right now, for me, the Alox Soldier seems to be perfect.

Amen. I'm a big fan of scout/camping knives, and the Victorinox Soldier is my favorite. The can opener on the Soldier is the best can opener on any knife. I take my '05 on every fishing trip, and it has proven very sheeple-friendly around the office.

The Huntsman, no question. I have absolutely no use for a Philips screwdriver in my pack, the tools are in an ammo can in the jeep. I need a cork screw because my wife drinks that grape juice and it’s the best way I know of to get the cotton filler out of those water purification pill jars. No saw and no deal. The SAK saw is awesome, if not a tad on the small side. I’ve actually built a lean-to with one and it was surprisingly easy. I’ve had several multi tools and they all weighed lots more than the Huntsman and didn’t do anything as well so they’re all in a box in the garage with all the other useless junk I was tempted to try in the field.

The caveat to this is that I also carry a larger field knife. I recently started to carry an Ontario Quartermaster to replace a bush knife that weighed about 6 ounces more but didn’t perform any better.

During hunting season I add a small plastic folder that is much more user friendly on game that the SAK but I know a guy who not only skinned an elk with one, he quartered it too!

Recently been on a SAK kick. there's victonrinox stores all around me up here.

cybertool 34 for in home pc and ikea related chores. had one for years. now i complement it with a small swissbit usb drive and classsic.

bought a one handed german army trekker in olive drab for my outdoors kit. that's a nice knife. pure function.

got a pioneer for edc and a farmer recently for a smaller survival kit. i have to admit i'm a latecomer to alox, but the farmer has to be the most bang for the buck you can get out of a sak. if i had to think of the perfect complement to a camp knife, the farmer has to be it.

I have been carrying the "Locksmith" for the last 6 months. It is a bit thick for pocket carry, but I make do because it is so handy. Also have a "soldier" which is a great little knife.

In my past life, I carried a "tinker" for years and would not leave home without it. It served me well when traveling. Used to carry it onto planes with no problem. Those days are over. Now the Locksmith is my go-to SAK. It would be a great pocket knife for emergency situations with its locking blades and of course the metal file/saw blade that you just never know when you might need it.

id like to see a "harkins" style sak where all the tools are in and out autos.. that would be a killer sak. and how about an urban survival sak with 3 blades, tanto, dagger hollow ground, and hawkbill all depending on the situation..all otf auto of course. did i go OT now :D

The Locksmith is my "away from home" knife. It is heavier and thicker than I prefer, but that big knife, big saw and big file make a hell of a survival and fix-all combination.

I carry either a Wegner Handyman or a Vic Classic, sometimes both. Based on my needs, here are the tools I'd like to have on a custom SAK.

Large blade, Awl / poker, woodsaw, toothpicks / tweezers, pliers, small blade, philips screwdriver, combo tool (Wire stripper, cap lifter and flathead screwdriver).

I would have to agree with the Super Tinker as I have 3 of them. I also really like the Huntsman and Fieldmaster.

I've been carrying a Huntman now for months and I think it's the one. :)

For me it's the Atlas lock back. It's a little big so I carry it in a leather pouch on my belt, I don't like too many things in my pockets anyways. The mini pliers saved me from a VERY UNCOMFORTABLE night once, so the knife has proved it's utility to me.
