You're not going to take any advise other than praise. I get that now. When you are designing something like a knife where hundreds of people have walked the steps before you, you should be scrambling for advise. But you will insist that you know more me, more than stacy, more than Brian and the rest of this forum that disagree's. And thats fine.

This is a flipper inspired by a short sword, hence the hilt that flips out along with the blade.

Since you say we don't understand your designs, maybe you can explain them to us.
1) How will this knife lock in the open and closed position?
2) As drawn, how will the blade tip enter the butt without striking the spacer plate at the butt?
3) Does it swing both ways, or is there a back spacer on one side?
4) How is that pivot built?
5) What holds it all together?

As far as the Spartan....

1) It may be buildable in the real world...I dont pretend to be a knifemaker, so I will leave that to the ones who are.

2) If it could be built, I really dont see it as a usable knife. The hilt renders a good third of the blade useless, and a short sword is designed the way it is becuase it is the size it is. If the design is scaled down...it just doesn't function. But, I dont think you care about that. "Art knife."

3) I have hesitated the go down this road before, but, since you keep on presenting us with designs, I think the time has come. It, along with many others you have shown, is screamingly ugly.

For the love of Scagel, go pick up an actual knife and look at it. Google Scagel, Loveless, etc., go look at the wonderful knives the knife maker members here show and sell...anything. Look up Larry Fuegen. Art knives that actually exist and could be used, designed and built by someone who knows how to make a simple knife.

I love art knives, sometimes I even prefer form slightly over function sometimes, but in the end the knife has to be an actual knife, and it has to work. asdf12345, You may not like that Hinderer knife, but at least it actually works, using real materials. OP doesn't even care if his designs actually work, he isn't interested in learning to make knives, and he doesn't even care to do the research that may help him design a makeable, usable, and functional knife. He's not making knives, he's "painting" pictures, so why is he posting here? There are places where he can post and get the kind of positive feedback he obviously wants.

For Braja, I'm sure this is unwelcome feedback, but to be a good designer, you need to know the underlying mechanisms of the thing you are designing. You can imagine how it should work in your head, but to sell any of your designs to anyone, you will need far more than just pretty pictures of what you wish it would look like, and those pretty pictures have to look like they can actually be made. Another thing, you should learn how to take constructive criticism, and stop trying to justify everything you do. You will make it far if you can learn from criticism, even if it sounds mean to you.

I'm moving this to the General Knife Discussion, as it has not context in "Shop Talk".

... I would just hope that people use better judgement about personal comments. ...
I do want to thank the people who aren't trolls though, ....

Yes. One should limit themselves to comments about the drawings, and not make personal comments.

And excellent move by the mod. Making a picture of a knife does not make one a knife maker.
