I just got my Tiger orange 2021 Pioneer XL this week. I lready have the Tiger orange 2021 classic.I just ordered the orange 2021 version.
How do you feel a Pioneer X pockets vs something like a Climber?![]()
I like the Pioneer X so much that I ordered the Cutlery Shoppe exclusive green. This is basically a tool kit in a slim, carryable design. It has everything I want. I cannot wait for it to get here.
I use my other X all the time. I have it in a leather slip of sorts and it stays in my pocket most days (unless I am carrying a Cadet). I always find something that needs just the attention this is made for. I think this is the apex of Victorinox SAKs. It is brilliant.
I carry my Pioneer X in a leather slip, most of the time, but sometimes I just drop it in my pocket. I can't comment on the climber except to say that the plastic scales are always more bulky than Alox. How do you feel a Pioneer X pockets vs something like a Climber?
The PX is a little thinner, but also marginally longer and a little heavier. Overall they feel pretty similar in the pocket. I do sometimes notice the extra weight of the alox knife but it’s only a difference of ~10g. Mine’s a Super Tinker, but close enough for the comparison IMO.How do you feel a Pioneer X pockets vs something like a Climber?

Personal preference I guess. I like them if I’m cutting something in a tight space. They’re good for zip ties and other situations where being able to cut from both sides is useful. I use mine, if they’re on me, to remove cucumbers and other veg from the garden. Some of my cucumber vines, pepper plants etc get pretty dense and this way I can reach an arm in and snip them off one-handed without worrying about hitting other parts of the plants. Also good for removing tags from t-shirts and other minor cutting tasks on flimsy materials. All things that can be accomplished with a blade, for sure - I wouldn’t say scissors are a must-have but they do prove useful at times.I honestly do not understand the fascination with scissors. Other than the remote possibility of needing them for trimming a mustache/hair, what use are they ? If I was into origami or crafts I would use dedicated scissors at home. Seriously, please explain the use of scissors outdoors, what use am I missing ?
Fair enough. Thanks for the honest answer, as mine was an honest question.Personal preference I guess. I like them if I’m cutting something in a tight space. I have the same question about the saw. When I'm in the woods, I always have a SAK with a saw, just in case. But I always carry at least a good hand saw which is much faster.I honestly do not understand the fascination with scissors.
