The practicality of multiple blades

Listen to Shotgun, for he is wise...

Agreed. But I still leave an extra Mora in the glove box and one in each bag as a set and forget. If the choice is to have, or not have, I want to have. Whatever works for you.

Only one of the knives I carry is unnecessary. I carry a small Boker KeyCom clipped to my right pocket, which also serves as a pocket dangler for a small Fenix E-15 flashlight. With that combo, I always have both a knife and a flashlight immediately available. The Boker is a very small knife but with the flashlight also serving as a lanyard, it becomes very easy to operate one-handed and has a very versatile clip blade. The AUS-8 blade takes a shaving edge and touches up easily by just stropping on a magazine cover. This is my "quickly cut open a box or bag" knife.

However, the KeyCom is too small for food prep tasks like slicing up an apple, plus it gets gummed up sometimes from packing tape until I take the time to clean it off. So I keep a Case Slimline Trapper (stainless steel) in my work bag, which is reserved for food prep tasks. Long thin blade, perfect for slicing food, easy to wash and rinse off without worrying about rust. It's almost never actually on me, just available.

So between the two, I could probably handle all of my daily cutting tasks. However, since I like and enjoy pocket knives, I usually have another slipjoint knife (Case, Buck, or Victorinox) in my back pocket beside my wallet. It does get used, but I could have probably gotten by with the Boker for most of those times.

There are lots of practical reasons why you might need to carry more then one knife but you need no reason more then that you just like knives.

Hmm...well, here's my system.

I carry a primary folder in my pocket, a SwissChamp on my belt, and a Cold Steel Super Edge on my keychain. In my pack, I keep a Cold Steel Survival Edge for "what if" situations, and a Kudu for backup, in case something happens to my primary folder or I decide I hate it for whatever reason. Soon I'll also be carrying a Spyderco Cricket in my boot.

I just have so many places where knives can go, and different purposes for them. Sure, I only use maybe one or two daily, but I like feeling prepared, and quite frankly, it's fun.

I carry four every day. Two are multitools, and two are folders.

I carry a Leatherman Style CS on my keychain for the scissors. I carry a Leatherman Skeletool CX in my LFP because PLIERS!

In the RFP, I carry a traditional. Because I like traditionals. Today I'm carrying a Hen and Rooster Toothpick with antler covers. Nice knife.
In the RRP, I carry a ZT0777M390. Yes, I do. And I use it. It sharpens up nicely, by the by.

FWIW, I also have a Maratac copper flashlight on my keychain, and one of those little titanium prybars. Not that I've ever used it. The prybar, I mean. The flashlight is actually very useful. :)

I always carry three:
Folder + small folder + Vic. Classic on keychain
or:
Fixed blade + small folder + Vic. Classic on keychain

The small folder is a traditional most of the time.
When I carry a backpack, I have a mutitool inside in addition to the other three.

I've never found much function, other than crackling at the thought of "dual wielding," in carrying more than one dedicated knife. However, I don't really count multi-tool blades as a "multiple" blade. I EDC 3.5" to 4.0" folders and a small multi-tool (leatherman micra).

One dedicated folder and some sort of multi-tool is all I want/need to carry. I subscribe to the concept "light is right".

Spyderco Dragonfly SS in my left front pocket, TOPS Tibo worn as a neck knife, and (at work) a CRKT Minimalist (wharncliffe) on my duty belt.

I used to carry a Gerber Multitool everywhere, but I've discontinued that over the past couple of years.

different knives for different chores, so I carry three daily. in my back right pocket I carry a small ESEE fixed blade and a SAK Farmer in a KSF pocket sheath, and a folder in my front right for quicker access.

plus i'm never in weekend warrior mode.

Probably no one else here is either.
Certain terms get old really fast:
-Weekend warrior
-Sheeple
-Mall Ninja
-Fanboy
-Hater

They derail the discussion, and discourage actual, genuine thought about the original issue.

I'm a total fanboy of weekend warriors who go all mall ninja on sheeple haters.

Wait. What was the topic again?
