The Puukko

This thread desperately needs more action.

Have to thank kamagong kamagong for reminding me to revisit the Mora 106. If I'm not mistaken, they ditched the laminated steel due to a shortage during covid and began making a full carbon version with revised lines and form. A vast improvement imho, no more downward crook to the blade in the way it sits off the handle, and no more annoying gap where the blade meets the ferrule.

It appears with the upgrade of the wood handled classics, they've mastered the ferrule as well. It's perfectly even with no bleed over and has a nice little lip where it meets the wood. Perfect symmetry all around, unike it's predecessor.

I always hope that I receive a piece of birch with linear grain but I never get it. I ended up sanding, staining, burnishing and then sealing the handle to bring out the chatoyancy. Hard to capture the shifting glow in photos but it definitely has soul.

I love the Lappi decorations / trinkets. I assume they were added there rathar than that they came with the knife?

They were on the knife when I got it. Its not even close to new, probably 40 years old maybe. Probably came back from Finland as a souvenir and sat in some ones sock drawer all these years. When those were added I don't know.

A couple old Scandinavian knives...
This one is from Halvor Olsen Vollan of Tinn Norway

A wonderful old couple. That Norwegian is a treat, but oh how I wish Morakniv had knives like that Frosts in its lineup.

This one I have yet to identify......
3" laminated blade 2.7mm thick, handle is what appears to be sallow root and reindeer antler. Feather light, and the sheath is a simplistic work of art in itself. Its thick leather, made in a way that the knife has a very positive engagement, very similar to kydex, and has zero movement once its locked in. I've never seen these markings, overall it has a Norwegian look and feel to it.
Blade/knife maker identified as Kenneth Bengtsson

Needs a leather sheath.

Also need help transcribing this lower inscription.

Honestly one of the more interesting puukko's I've seen in a long while, sheath included.

I wonder how they made the sheath... steamed it?

Woops, forgot to post it. Did some experimenting on this one, really burnished the leather while it was still wet but almost dry and was shocked at how glossy it got (even before waxing and polishing). Difficult to capture in pics but I think I prefer it without the extra burnishing.

No, the glossy finish truly sets it off and matches the glossy look of the wood handle. So well done! Your work is outstanding!
