I can't answer your question.Nice knife and nice pic. The kuksa looks good too, from a burl. Did you make it the traditional way and pull the fibers out to make the bowl?
Would we call this knife a puukko or a финка (finka)?I can't answer your question.
I bought it at my daughter's request in a local souvenir shop near Lumivaara.

Thanks for the kind words. This was an experiment in making micarta from tent fabric and Lewis jeans. That it is!! The color is outstanding!
No questions there......This one has a lot of the Marttiini Ilves in its styling....I have a few more Finnish type knives that may raise questions.

Arathol, Very interested in what you find out about this "Military Puukko". I emailed your photos to several friends in Finland who are into knives (J-P Peltonen, and Pekka Tuominen) and they also had never seen a puukko like this one. Thanks. JohnHere is an odd one......
Its a Finnish military knife from Marttiini, marked Ilves on the blade.
However, its a bit different than the regular Ilves models. The blade is ground different, and the bolster has a finger groove. The sheath has a silver Cross of Liberty on it thats overlaid with the Finnish Lion, and the small blue inset on the leather band is the hakaristi used by the Finnish Air Force since 1918.
I have a contact at Marttiini thats looking into this, and who tells me that it probably dates from before 1974 from the style of engraving.

Puukko with birch bark handle and sheath, made by Veikko Hakkarainen. I bought this for 40 euros at the local flea market

When inserted into the sheath the puukko gives an audible snap and retention is perfect; the secret can be seen here, wooden splines inside the sheath:
