The Ratwieler LE or CG?

So what are you folks gonna be doing snaggin the satin LE's or holding out for CGs to come out?

I've never bought an LE and I really want a Ratweiler so Im up in the air here. I do have one satin custom shop rodent trail that I love.

I'll probably hold off for a CG so I can take to the custom shop and pick my grind and go for some G10.

Ultimately it all depends on how they're offered in LE though. Ready for pics and specs!

I want TWO knives I can use, so CG for me. Are we sure CG will be offered though...

Does Rat provide double cut finish or not.... like Busse?

Can't recall ever seeing a factory DC rat.

The satin LE will be a sexy little beast in Black canvas, and will only look better with use once it develops a patina. LE for me.

Just imagine . . what if they offer the LE in infi steel?? oh the possibilities

I mentioned something like this over in the other SWAMP...

I've come to three understandings...
1. If a need is for INFI---get a Busse...that's a better plan than hoping for INFI Rats.
2. The RMD in INFI would set sales records if offered like the current CG and would crash the Website(s) if offered Ganza style...especially if based on the RMD SE.
3. Never give up hope that a new Rat will someday be created from INFI. It's far easier to maintain satin INFI than satin SR101. Performance wise, both excel.

So to the question of this thread. For me, if the LE differs from the CG in more than just satin vs. coating (like Busse BJ and BJ LE differ) then I'll very seriously consider both. But I'm already decided on a CG for awhile now. Specs will determine if I go for an LE.

I am a fan of satin Rats.

Yeah at this point I really like the looks of a CG. All mine are users and I don't plan on beating one with the anniversary logo and an LE #. Id sooner pick my own grind and go with a CG through the custom shop. MAYBE satin finish I don't know.

I just put an inquiry into the custom shop about doing just that or even just keep it a sterile LE like I did with ASHBM.

CG for sure for me, I really don't have an interest in a 7.5 inch blade that isn't 3/16 inch thick stock.

My whole problem is that even at 3/16's it won't be a do everything one and done survival knife like the 1/4 inch ones are. I've always heard from people who had them it was the one knife option that did everything well. It had the weight to be an effective chopper and wasn't unwieldy like a bigger knife. I'm pretty disappointed.

I think you would have to work real heard to damage this knife- probably be even more versatile being thinner, IMHO...

Exactly. Thinner stock takes advantage of the steels toughness and makes it more versatile.

I'm not buying. It would have to depend on the toughness due to being thinner stock. There is no advantage. Edge angle determines cutting efficiency. As does the thickness behind the primary grind. Beyond that there is no advantage to thinner profiles. Other than the fact the knife will be lighter. Versatility is a subjective thing. What you gain in handyness you lose in toughness and in chopping or splitting.

The bushcraft crowd spew forth this kind of nonsense. The sharpened prybar's suck mentality. When they don't realize that edge geometry is the determining factor.

A wise man once said....Geometry cuts. Alloy and HT determine how long it cuts.

Same alloy, better geometry will likely cut better, but will lose some strength due to being thinner, but again the heat treat needs to be taken into account... We have to remember the original was DHT, this one is not, its through hardened. So now this will play a role as well.

Will this .165" Ratweiler cut? You better believe it!!! A thinner edge will normally slice deeper into things with less effort, geometry dependent of course.

But will it be as tough? Without knowing more about the DHT on the original its hard to say, but its HIGHLY unlikely, and IMO wont be as tough being this thin.

But it looks awesome none-the-less. And i cant wait to get my hands on the CG version. I have waited long and hard for this knife.
