the reason I quit buying Shirogorov off the exchange

Oh man! You got me there! Hell everyone I know chooses one form of social media or forum to participate in and that's it. Nobody has time to look at anything else, what with work, family, beer drinking, watching football and all those other things.
Wait....oh nevermind.

^ That's exactly what I'm talking about...except you forgot the "surfing," part. Speaking of which...it's time for me to get out the door.

Somewhere on a Russian forum, there's a thread like this complaining about why they won't buy CRK's........

^ :D
Or why they do buy CRK's:

Two out of every three Comrade's surveyed, prefer a CRK, over a Shiro. ;)

None of those places are listed as Authorized Service locations though either.. seems like Recon1 was although I can't find it in print right now.
Recon-1 is the only one I know of and they won't service any Shirois not directly purchased from them.

So lets say for instance you buy a Shiro on the approved dealers site here on BF from one of the Shiro dealers in Russia. You can't send it in to Recon-1 if something is off.

This is problematic for me as nobody wants to ship a knife to Russia. Much less a $900 ++ knife. So that is why I stay away from Shiros until there is someone that accpts warranty work here in the US. Which is what my original question was in the beginning of the thread. So it appears nothing has changed and I got my answer. Thanks!

So bottom line is why buy an EXPENSIVE knife that has no warranty set up here in the U.S.? The cost of the knife surely warrants some sort of warranty. IMO it would help Shirogorov if they had a real warranty and not someone that smuckered them into a deal that the only knives they will fix is if they bought them direct from Recon-1. Seems to me that Shiro should look for another dealer in the USA who is willing to help out a bit more than just his OWN customers and set up a deal to service all legit Shiros.

The following exchange is from The Bears' Den thread here at BF and may provide some illumination to this discussion.

Fresh back from Russia today.. I chased down the mail man of course.

Did you send your knife over for service/repair, Marcus? If so, I'm sure a lot of us would be interested in the details, process, costs, and your experience.

So as far as the warranty trip goes...

The detent ball fell out without warning or trace about a half a year ago. I was reluctant to send it for repair due to Canadian border services agency (CBSA) wrongly calling it an auto upon initial arrival into Canada.

However, I finally did send it in mid Aug. I followed their shipping guidelines and it made it to them without a hitch.

I was on the fence about getting the finishes on the knife refurbished, so there was a bit of communication (Good. A day or two for reaponse) back and forth. I decided to keep the scratches because I plan on using the knife anyway.

They notified me, and shipped my knife shortly after that. Sailed into Canada with no issues. About a 2 month turn around.

Because it was a warranty issue I did not pay return shipping, but they did tell me if a knife was sent in just for a "spa" they would charge shipping.

Now it's not clear if marcus52AR marcus52AR bought his Shiro at Recon1, though it seems since he shipped it himself that was likely not the case. Hopefully, he will note my reference to him and can add something more substantive to this discussion than speculation from those who won't buy more Shiros, haven't bought any Shiros, or haven't tried to send any Shiros in for repair.

You think it's just as ignorant as this thread?

How could it be.

ChazzyP ChazzyP

Yes I sent it to them myself. The work done on the knife was indeed under warranty, so they shipped it back to me after the work was completed.

I purchased the knife on IG from a re-seller. It had the old style certification and they sent the new version when I sent it in for warranty.

I admit I was reluctant to send it, but looking back everything went smoothly.

The frustration of the op seems a tad silly. If you don't want to send your knife to Russia for warranty, don't buy a Russian knife.

Or buy from Recon 1..

Shirogorov will service their knives regardless of where you bought them as I see it. Recon just has the added shipping service.

There is only one dealer in the world, and that is Recon1. Period.

They do have a warranty setup here in the US, it's called buying a new one from their dealer. Otherwise, the warranty is still just as good, but shipping is on you.
You have any proof to back up your claim that Recon1 "smuckered" Shirogorov into being their only dealer, or is this just more baseless, ignorant BS like your first post?
If you don't want to buy their knives, fine, nobody cares. Where people begin to care is when you try to spread your ignorance around as fact. Do some research on how things actually work with these two companies, and if you still don't like it, then don't buy the product, but you're not doing yourself or anyone else any favors with your false claims.

what seems silly to me is to buy a $300 dollar knife an send it in to China or Brazil. But a $900++ knife sent to Russi. LOL! That is just bad decision making.

I had owned SEVERAL Shirogorovs. I even met one of the bothers and spoke with him at the Blad Show. Seems like good caring people. However Recon 1 at the table right next to them, , not so.

So because of this warranty I wanted to be sure if I keep a knife and USE it for many years I might wear some things out and need a repair. I don't feel comfortable with a high end knife such as a shiro to hold onto and use and one day find out I have a brick. So I sold them and got comparably priced knives that I do have a service center here in the US. Ask get older and wiser I tend to lean on factory warranties more because I knows $hit happens

So I have money and I protect my money and investments. They make nice knives. But there are also as many suckers who keep buying them without outright thinking ahead about what their knife might be like in 2-5years after use..For those who actually USE their Shirogorovs. But if you just keep em in a safe ty box. Then you can preserve them a bit longer... maybe 20-30 years.

Count me as one of those suckers who've bought several Shiros and actually use them, although my Tabargan is customized and pretty much a drawer queen. I'm glad to have them and if one eventually needs service I'll figure out what to do when the time comes.

Thanks for sharing your experience and contributing some useful information to this thread, marcus52AR marcus52AR .

Isn't the GBU for people who actually buy and sell things? In ten years and over 20,000 posts you have ZERO feedback. This is the third time I've seen you post this drivel and nobody has paid attention to you yet. Tell ya what, my phone number is (redacted personal info), if you'd like to call and tell me how to run my life. I have news for you, though, until you start paying my bills, or for my gold membership, which you won't even buy for yourself, you're going to have a hard time directing me to do anything. Aren't your useless posts the EXACT same kind of crap you preach about?

I use mine every day as well and don't baby them. In fact, you should see some of the videos I have where I tested one of them. They hold up very, very well!
