The Revenant: Any knife action??

The bear wins the Academy award, how classic!!! Now that is funny, holding up the statue.

Dentalium shells were well distributed throughout western North America, as hanging ornamentation on native clothing. These shells came from the west coast and were found on clothing as far inland as the prairie tribes. And I have found plenty of tinkling/jingle cones made from scrap metal, primarily copper from worn out kettles. The native trade networks were vast and complex well before Europeans arrived so tools were also well dispersed. Not to mention the turmoil and movement of tribes from traditional locations in the 17-1800's, and traders that increasingly went to the native camps to beat their competition.

I was really looking forward to this movie since it was shot right where I hike and backpack a lot. Can't say I liked it, watching Leo cry and moan for 3 hours was a bit too much for me, and his comment about global warming had most of Alberta laughing. Oh well.

I watched the movie yesterday and I liked it a lot. I found it gritty and beautiful in the same time.
I think that many people might have wrong expectations with the movie, as it is more of artistic movie than blockbuster type.
Definitely worth the wait!

Hello, I know this is my first post, however, my wife and I were the makers of many of the knives used in this production. Namely the knife Leonardo used to kill the bear. Also the knives used by the French trapper Toussaint and the beaver tailed sheath knife carried by Leonardo as he left the fort on his search for Tom Hardy. All in all we made 25 knives and 8 bags, one of which was carried by Lucas Haas...Bud

Cool, Please post up pic's. We'd love to see your work

Hugh Glass knife. Can be seen during bear attack. We collaborated with the prop master and director to make what the director wanted for Dicaprio

Beaver tail sheath with 6 pin trade knife, seen after Hugh Glass leaves the fort looking for Fitzgerald

Knife carried by French trapper Toussaint, (used to end his manhood)
The sheath for this knife had the wampum removed on set as the director did not want anything hanging on them. He told the wife that before hand, but her artistic flair prevailed and she added it anyhow...
Below is a link to the newspaper article written last Sunday after the movie was shown

In the final Knife fight scene, Tom Hardy carried a modified Hudson Bay Knife which DiCaprio stabbed him with. It was made by Mike Mann - Idaho Knife Works.

Nifeman, thanks for sharing the pics and the article. It's great to see a NC guy's knives in such a great movie.

I thought the knife he stabbed the bear with looked like a narrow dagger.

Just finished the movie about an hour ago. It was a great movie. Sometimes the very slow tension was cringe worthy but it was entertaining. Without giving much away I can say that there was more knife use than I would have thought.

I did 7 days of survival with nothing but the cloths on my back and nearly died. There were some tuff people back in the day. Just saw movie and it left me kinda in disbelief how out of control day to day living was for some people.
