Hey guys, I thought this would be the best place to ask about the 66. I'm in the mood for a new traditional and I've kind of landed on the 66. I was actually trying to find a decently priced Fayette or a banana 35(I'm in desperate need of both of them), but I was thinking about nabbing a 66 to fill the ever hungry void.

The only GEC patterns I have experience with is a 73 trapper, and a 25. It looks like the 66 is in between them in size, which is something I really like. And being a 2 spring knife, I'm used to the thickness because the 73. I really like the sturdiness of my 73, it just feels solid. Is the 66 like that? It won't be abused, but it will most definitely be used.

I'm not a huge stockman fan(I have a 303 I really like), which is one reason I was considering the 35 over the 66, but the more I look at the frame on the 66 the more I like it(that gentle curve looks like it'd feel great in hand).

So really anything you guys have to say about it would be appreciated. I think I already made up my mind, an informed buy is almost always a good buy. Thanks!

I can say that much that I’ve had stockman and other multi-blades traditionals and I’ve often not been happy how they feel in the hand. The 66 however felt and still feels very good in hand even with the sheepsfoot poking out. Only thing was the tang thing I mentioned in my original post but that’s a personal thing.

Recently I decided to turn my spey blade to spear

Same cutting edge, just without the hump!

I was thinking to do the same but I doubt how clean I could do it without powertools, so I rather let it. I sanded down the hump of the spey on my 73 to give it a more drop point look. Your mod looks nice!

I think these are the other 3 versions. Plus a blue bone for KSF.

Hey, thanks! That's the info I was looking for.

In was aware of a couple I'd missed..wasn't aware of the DLT or the blue camel bone..

Was trying to put together a complete collection of something..long pull '17 66's seemed easy enough..there's more out there than I thought and I kinda don't know what I'm doing yet..new to GEC..just starting to figure out the releases and the SFO's..

The hunt is some of the best part of collecting..so this is more fun than frustrating....so far.

Thanks again for the skinny!
