The Sardinian connection.

The ways of the Sardinian connection are mysterious. A secret clan of knife enthusiasts who appreciate a well made blade.

Shapely and a joy to hold and admire are the tools of their trade.

Lucky are those fortunate enough to know the ways of the Sardinian brotherhood :)

Sweet!

Thank you.

Hello,

I would like to thank you and the other posters in THIS thread for the pictures, history, interesting and fun trivia posts.

This forum is like opening a HISTORY book to me when it comes to knives.

Hello Cate,
thank you for your post and contribution. This subforum is indeed a great source of knowledge...along with many other great things. As for this thread, it started as a fun thread between Carl (jackknife) and me about the smuggling of Sardinian knives across the Atlantic (an activity that I still work on:rolleyes:) then Achillepattada raised the bar with pictures of amazing knives from my homeland. Soon the smuggling theme will be brought to this thread again though ;)
As for these knives, the pattern is completely "exclusive" of my own island (Sardinia), but there are similarities with other patterns of Southern Europe (with Spanish navajas, for example). They've been around at least since the XIX century.
Stick around :)

Dear Fausto,

Thank you! I most certainly will stick around!

I have LINKS that I saved to show my MT born and raised husband. I think that he most likely knows about these types of knives since he was given his first knife when he was 5 years old. He studies these things and knows about some knives that I have NO clue about but I do NOT think that he has seen these types of PICTURES and these knife makers. He has looked at this forum with me on and off plus I show him things that interest me. Vice versa. (Ask him about guns though - ha!)

My late husband was all over the world and not just for his Nam tour. I am quite sure if he was still alive today - he would tell me some more stories about Italy. He liked your country very much. He was always treated with KINDNESS in your country. I remember getting a telephone call from him from Rome one Christmas day. He had to tell me about the Vatican and other places. Anyway, enough of that now.

I would like to thank you and other posters here again. I shall look at more posts and pictures later on today, Saturday. Retired ladies like me with husbands on 24/7 work schedules have odd sleep patterns.

Sincerely,

Catherine aka Cate

Dear Kate ,
The sardinian knive world is passionning because it's, in the same time, fully linked to a long history AND very active today.
This year no more than two associations have been created with differents and complementary goals :
- The "Corporazione Sarda Coltellinai " dedicated to certify the quality by attribution of the title of Maestro.
I don't think that the association has already a web site but they use this facebook group to comunicate :
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1498010280425169/?fref=ts

- Kenz' E Meres organized around a group mixing professionnal and non professional knive-makers to promote the traditional sardinian knife, exchange and organize
workshops.
This association as already a very active forum : http://www.kenzemeres.com/index.php
And a brand new web site : http://associazionecultur9.wix.com/assoculturalekm#!associati/c199t

As you can see it the sardinian knive world is very rich and active :D:thumbup:
Lot of them are good friends and some of them are my best friends.
If you pay attention and love their culture the sardinian people is one of the most friendly I've met .
I've to add that I'm not from the island, I'm just french with italian origins.

Nice to see you on this sub-forum :D:thumbup:

Hello friends,
I've made a little blog as an archives of pictures of my knives and some others.
Of course you have seen most of it on the forum, but at least you have all the pictures on the same screen :D

Hello ,
Davide Steri send you a piece of blue this morning ;)

Take care :p
Â

Hello again,

Ohh my!

This is SWEET too. Blue is my favorite color! I like black too. I like a true RED not maroon for a touch of color. Sometimes in an entire dress if it is a simple design.

I do not know if it was you or the other man who posted that PRETTY green micarta (?) knife or not and that was one sweet knife!

There were so MANY others that you and other people posted that I could not thank individually because my computer was and still is so slow.

I love how you POSE the knives with the backgrounds. Other people do the same thing and it makes them really stand out!

I like the pictures from overseas too.

Thanks again.

I love this one and the case or sheath (?) whatever is the proper term. I am used to saying 'case' for holding a firearm.

ALL of you guys and/or gals should publish a BOOK!

Cate

Many thanks to all ! Achille , now I don't feel bad about putting a blue liners on a knife with a blue sheath. I had gotten some bad comments about that .
What an interesting place, goats growing on trees !!

This has been a fascinating thread to read.
21 years ago my friend, Sebastiano, a native Sardinian, gave me this Pattada knife.
It's been in the desk in my office ever since.
He told me that most all of the shepherds on Sardinia use these knives. Of course I was honored by his gift but it wasn't until reading this thread that I really knew anything about these knives.
Thanks to all that have contributed.
