Sooner or later I will ask Andrea Melis for one of these knives. It might be a bit different from traditional Sardinian patterns but every time I see one, my Paypal tickles... :D
Hope you had a nice time here on my home island, and I'm sure you did ;) next time you're around, please let me know and I'll be happy to catch up with you somewhere. I haven't visited Tharros in ages :)
Have a nice trip back home :)

Hi Fausto,
Yes I hope that we'll find a way to meet each other :D:thumbup:

You should at least meet Andrea. It's a fantastic guy and it's weird to imagine how its strong hands can make such a perfect work.

This weekend there is a blade show in Pozzomaggiore which is not so far from you. Andrea but also Gigi Sechi are at this mostra.

Enjoy your so beautiful island ;)

I'm definitely going to Pozzomaggiore today or tomorrow :)
The Sardinian Connection always needs associates ;)

Fausto I hope that you went to the knive-show on saturday . And more generally I advise you to go to all the sardinian knive-shows this day.
Usually all the knive-makers who live far ( for the sardinian standard , because for us crossing the island is just a joke :D ) don't come back on sunday .

Warm regards from the cloudy Paris where I am now :grumpy:

I did attend the show on Saturday, met Andrea Melis, and handled the very knife I posted above. I got very very close to actually buying it, and I'm positive that I will ask him to make me one with the same pattern and specs, maybe with a nickel silver collar...we'll see.
Unfortunately, my camera died the moment I turned it on, so I have no pictures to share, but it was a nice show for sure.
Actually, it felt like something in the middle between an exhibition (and sale of course), and a convention among friends who share the same hobby (making knives ;)).
Take care in Paris, and keep the clouds there...we're better off with the sun ;p

A while back I messaged Fausto asking whether he could order a Resolza to be custom made for me, and I mentioned that I was very picky about the size, and with the materials. (I'm sure there are at least a few others around here that are just as picky. ;) )

I was looking for it to have carbon steel (it's K720, apparently similar to O2), and for the horn to be a light shade of silvery blond with some dark character running through it.
I thought that after a patina is earned, it would pair very well with nickel silver hardware to finish it off.

I love that it is made with 'growths' (is that the right term?) The horn is made slightly bulging out from the back spacer to compensate for any shrinkage, which horn is known for.

I didn't think it was possible, but the pile side is more beautiful than the mark side! I love the way the horn ripples along its length.

I just want to give a BIG thankyou to Fausto, you were very helpful throughout, and I couldn't be happier with the knife I got!

It's already starting to get a patina, I'll make sure to take a some pictures down the line, and put them up.

Ryan,
I'm really happy that you like the knife. It's been a long hunt, but I think it was worth it. And I do know what it means to be picky
I will be honest: I'm usually not a fan of blond horn, and prefer darker tones...but when I received your knife from the maker, I thought I'd love to keep it for myself ;)
By the way, K720 is the European version of O2, and it will take a nice patina (which I hope you will show here, for the patina lovers that browse this subforum...) and a nice edge as well.
Basically, I did nothing, especially compared to what I receive on this forum, and I'm proud to give my contribution with the knives of my homeland.
And it's always nice to hunt for knives...even if they're not meant to be mine :D

Well done, Fausto!! The blond horn of Ryan's knife is just gorgeous. The whole knife is fantastic!! Steri does such great work. I too am looking forward to seeing it age with use and how the horn color may change. Congrats on a wonderful acquisition, Ryan! Fausto ....your the best, my friend!!

Hello,

Ryan, great choice!!!!
Your knife is as traditional as beautiful .

It's very nice to share and show to the others that it's not so hard to order and have one of these great knives :thumbup:

Warm regards

I'm about to sink my hands on one of these bad boys. What price range should I settle for as my first Sardinian knife?
