The Sebenza is 21 years old!

Dave - hope you are bringing plenty of all to Blade - Atlanta....

Nukemkb -- looking forward to seeing you at Blade! Too bad you didn't snag that cool unique last year (the one that looked like a pod of dolphins). I was going to buy it if it survived the show, but someone picked it up the last day . . .

Very cool! I like the arrow one. I may have to order one. But I will be definately be ordering a left hand LE large. Currently my Micarta inlay is tops as far as daily caries go, it will be hard to break away from that. Regardless, I see a 21 in my future. Just not sure which one to get.:D:thumbup:;)

Wow... The Boise Art Museum just had a Frank Lloyd Wright exibit last summer/fall... I wonder is any influance from it went into the 'Straight Ahead'. I likes it... Congrats on turning 21!

this is a place for opinions to he voiced, so here's mine... I absolutely hate this idea. I was a CRK dealer for a time, and I have owned every sort of CRK folder... Here's what I think... there is the Sebenza, and there are variations... The SEBENZA is the lg. reg. ... The original design was dismissed to bring in a better design... The REG. I think this is a situation where nostalgia is getting the better of reason.. If the line is to be streamlined... Get rid of the small sebe in favor of the mnandi.. CRKs are the best... But half the line is gimmicks... The one piece of perfection is the LARGE REGULAR SEBENZA. ... No frills, no gimmicks... Just the best knife money can buy.

I would never buy or own another Classic Sebenza. The cutout for the thumb lug is hideous and uncomfortable... And YES... You can touch the edge w/ the knife folded. The way the tang sticks out of the handle when the knife is closed is unacceptable.. Why?? Because it is not necessary.

I can't imagine that between the two, the classic prevails... I MUST be missing something.

CRK... Go ahead and kill your best knife design to sell some gimmicks... But WHEN... not IF... I lose this knife I'll seek a used lg. Reg. or maybe even an SnG..

I would be happier with my Large Regular Sebenzas if the corner of the frame, just forward of the lock bar, wasn't so sharp, pointy.

I like the way the tang sticks out on the Classic. It's more tactical. And, more comfortable. :)

Wow now I don't know what to do. Should I keep the Classics that I have and buy a regular too?!!?!

Is one of the new models going to be that "Crocodile" design from the Exquisite Blade DVD?

IN YOUR HUMBO OPONION.

I can see you're taking the discontinuation of the regular personally. I would too if I cared for it that much. I understand what you're saying too. It does seem silly to discontinue it. Having the Classic and Regular in small and large, along with the Mnandi are wonderful options. I don't think any of them should be scrapped. Oh well, hopefully the new unknown models will be even better.

Also, I'm confused. Is this "21" version coming out next year or this year? If it's this year that only makes the knife 20 if it was released in 1988...

It may be significant that the Regular is going to be kept on in a limited capacity.
This retains the tooling if it turns out they need to bring it back.

New Coke, Classic Coke! :D

Archieblue---Your post was excellent! To me, the Classic looks like a "clunker". And I say that with no disrespect!

As they say...........
Different strokes for different folkes

I can accept that some like the regular over the classic and understand the frustration. I would feel the same, except I'm in the Classic camp. I have a large in both regular and classic and the Classic style just appeals to me to much more.

I'm glad the classic lives on. If it had been the one to get the chop I would be out there buying a few right now.

I still intend to get an additional classic soon.

+1 for the Classic

The regular is my favorite folder bar none. Small one in hand, large on the way. I'm very sad, sniff sniff. I hope I never lose mine!!!

I just sold a small regular bg42, if i'd have known this was happening I might not have done it. At least I still have my large regular bg42. I'm surprised by the dropping of the regulars, especially since I thought that i'd read that the people in the shop carried regulars over classics by about 75% versus 25%, but i'm sure they know what they are doing. I just really want to see the new knife design now!

It's been ages since I've been on BF, but the news of changes at CRK were too much to resist!

My two cents: I never liked the regular handle. The ridges are a pain (literally) and the lack of a sizeable cut - out makes it harder to open. Yet, I prefer the regular's broader blade to that of the classic model.

Ideally, I'd like a regular blade on a classic handle. Which I assume isn't in the works. I would also like a different blade steel, but I don't think that's going to happen, either.

The "Sebenza 21" looks OK, but I don't think it's really significantly different from the current classic model. I'm wondering what the wood inlay models will look like. Classic style or regular style?

Discontinuing the regular Seb on May 2? That's very short notice.

How long is the wait time from order to delivery nowadays? I've been thinking about getting a large regular one day, but this announcement has moved up my schedule a bit.

In light of this particular knife model being labeled CRK's 21st anniversary commemorative edition, It's really not a very innovative change to commemorate a knife with, IMO.

If CRK went to the trouble of celebrating the 21st anniversary of their fantastic Sebbie line of knives by introducing a new commemorative model, I would have expected something more substantial from them than this.

Like what?.... Personally, I'd like a bigger Mnandi-type model or a mid-sized Sebbie with a different blade....something between the size of the large and small Sebbie in terms of length. My point is, I would like to have seen something more from them than this.

This change here is superfluous on a knife that has earned such a great reputation and is as near in perfection as a large Sebbie is, IMO of course.

EDITED TO ADD:
I just now saw the thread on the new CRK folder to be shown at blade. So, that changes things a little and with that in the works at CRK, forget my stoopid "innovative" comments above. :D

I reckon my post comes from a man who has lost a lg reg and unfortunately I WILL lose my current one... If a used one is too costly... This will be the end of me carrying an incomparable to any other knife... I think the Reg. is perfect, and the previous (now classic) was discontinued in favor of the Reg. for a reason... hopefully this is just a silly ploy to re-release the Reg. in five years with a bunch of noisy writing all over it reminding you that is WAS special... and pretty much unchanged for TWELVE years.
CRK... I ASSume/fear that you are doing this to make room for a $500 base price knife.. If this is true, I for one, will be a lost customer, and I imagine I've spent 6-7 thousand dollars on CRK thus far.

Chris and Fam... Good luck, and I CERTAINLY DO wish you well!!

AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEW KNIFE!!! Just please ask yourself... Is it for collectors or users???

I'm thinking I might order a spare blade(maybe two) for my Reg. Any one else consider doing this?

Also, does anyone else think the name "Classic 21" a little odd? What will it be called next year...? I could see it being last year, but "21" is a fairly odd year to recognize in some ways. Maybe it's just me.
