The Simple #74 from GEC!!

Great thread, Charlie.... this is my one and only 74... a Mustang. Beautifully balanced knife, love the drop point, and it's 440C steel.
I agree.... another run of these would be better than fine....

Great thread, Charlie, for a great pattern! I've had many #74s over the years, but am now down to just three.

The original, the 2012 Traditional Forum knife, the Saddle Trapper in stained green tea jig bone.

So its settled then !...the helm of the SS Porchenberg for is yours for 2020. Congratulations Admiral Waynorth and may it be a rich voyage.....You have the Conn.:D

I like 'em too and you guys are showing some fine examples.
I bought 3 from the last run, cougar claw, autumn leaf and orange camel bone. Like Monk I died my jigged autumn leaf 74 as I found the factory color to 'electric'. This pattern is a nice size, slim and very pocket friendly. My clip blade stallion and one of my drop point mustangs have been carried and used often. The smooth camel bone has remained safe queen so far.74-1 - 1.jpeg74-2 - 1.jpeg74-3 - 1.jpegView attachment 1291526

My accumulation of 74s began in 2016 with one Single blade SS and American Chestnut Mustang. I thought the materials were cool and I loved the drop point blade. As I got a chance to use the Mustang I developed a strong appreciation for the slightly easier pull (compared to the 73's I had), the comfortable grip, the slicey drop point and decided if others ever became available I'd try to get a couple.

About the same time I made that decision the Northwoods Zulus came out. I jumped at the chance to own one in Mammoth thinking it would be my only Zulu. But a few weeks later when my budget had recovered a bit, some generous people made a Denim and Linen Micarta available (below retail) on the Exchange. By then I had found I really liked the useful size and style of the Zulu blade. I did not have either of those cover materials so I was glad I was able to pick them up.

The next run of 74's were produced in 2017. By that time I was completely enamored with 74's and grab a Snakewood, Smooth White Bone and an Orange Camel Bone Mustang plus an Ebony Stallion with a Clip blade you see below.

Without ever making any plans to accumulate 74's I now probably have more than I should! Yet I would still consider buying one or two more if another run were made.

I doubt I could ever wear out my ebony Stallion, but part of me wants to go hunting for a cocobolo and Yellow Rose. Just in case...
I know what you mean Christian. There are patterns ya just don't want to be without. If it be
of any consolation, both a cocobolo and a yellow rose would be worth pursuing just to have.

I wish I had kept more of the 74s that have come through my hands. I do have a 74 mustang stainless thanks to traumkommode traumkommode offering to sell his to me. Thanks man!

I would also love to get my hands on an Esky Zulu. I wasn't collecting traditionals during the last time they came out (or, at least, I don't recall the last time they were dropped). A black linen would be soooo nice.

So many great pieces in this thread! Just WOW! Great idea Charlie! I would be one of many in line for a clip or drop point Waynorth 74 :D

Also shout out to traumkommode traumkommode for my sweet, sweet Cougar claw! It's been fighting back and forth with the farm boy for pocket time and starting to pull ahead in the middle rounds :)
