The Snark Knight Returns

I paid under $150 for each of the ones I own. I also agree that my personal spending price for a production knife is $200 or less. If I am getting custom or hand made that is a completely different animal. Thank god for people with money that buy for full price then list knives that haven't even been sharpened on the exchange!

Yeah I should probably watch the exchange. Mostly I just watch for blems or for them to go on sale.

Been a fun day for me. Time to make a proper coal forge and retire the old brake drum job. I love using coal and it will pair nicely with the new gas one.

Picked up some 1/4 plate and cut it to size.

I bought a thick cast iron duck's nest and clinker breaker from a friend that casts them, then used a schedule 40 reducing Tee to fab up an ash dump and air inlet.

I don't think it will burn out, but it's heavy. I'll re-enforce the table with some angle on the bottom side.

A proper tuyere indeed.

Got it marked out and ready to cut and called it quits for the day.

My old hand cranked Lancaster blower will feed the air. It's a beast.

If you guys are interested in following the build, I'll post more as it progresses.

Interested!

My cousin has a coal set up at his place with a hand cranked blower. I don't know if he even uses it anymore. I would love to see your setup Trade. I may make a surprise visit to see my cousin and see if he would be interested in selling some of his equipment after ;)

Would love to see the build!

Hey TBL, if you make it out to your cousin's, make sure you snap some pics of that forge.

If you really feel like putting some effort into it... you could always sit the can on top of a live car air bag with a pressure sensor :D this way as soon as they go to remove the can *BOOM* it will launch the can into/ above anybody trying to steal from you. Instead of filling the can with garbage you can fill it with poo water. Everything within 20 yard radius will be covered. All you would need is a hose to clean up the mess :)

Pressure-sensor-booby-traps sounds awesome! Now ya got me thinking... Yeah claymores might be a little over the top, although I must admit my first thought was using a bear trap :)

After writing that last post I decided to give him a call ;)

Apparently he has moved since I last spoke with him (to the other side of the country no less). His entire metal shop was packed up and put in the back of his truck for storage. Here comes the kicker......That Deuce and a half that I took pictures of this winter for ya'll is his truck....

When I find some time I may have to go up and investigate. See how things are packed and how easily available some pieces of equipment are to remove. Where the truck is parked at my brother inlaw's already has a shed set up that we could potentially clean out and turn into a shop. I supposed I should of asked his permission to unpack it  but since he took up residence in Vancouver, I don't think he'll be back any time soon. After I check things out I'll call him again :D

Things have occurred in this little shop.

Yeah, I should say, runnin behind like always, but think im gonna make it. Murphs pics and mine is pretty much the result of two back to back 16hr days in the shop, Murphs been here burnin the midnight oil with me. Im tired and my back hurts, lol. I swear after Blade is over im not stepping foot in my shop for at least a couple weeks.

It should look better finished............just because the work will be done. Lol.

I've already have several peices done. But I gotta get these done for the show. Not out of the woods yet. Gonna be some long nights in the shop until the show.

I can only imagine the satisfaction you guys will feel when it all comes together as things get finished.

Thanks for the photos and fantastic work fellas.

Hmm. Satisfaction. Maybe, but my life have been so hectic for the last 5 months that when I get to Blade, and all of this shit is over, I plan on being so drunk that I have no recollection of any of this, lol.

WOW, Todd!
Go Go Go!

I've been working on some dashi collaborations this weekend.

Here's Hefty Lefty quenching one of her own 1084 pieces in canola:

Here are a couple more of her design that I ground out today on her kick-ass grinder (glass platen now!), which are tempering now, along with 3 others. I let the one on the right get a little warm...

Here's the grinder itself, which she completely revived and renovated (and upgraded), from bearings to paint:

Good thing I have VIP passes so I can see those before they're all sold! BTW, I found you a Vols hoodie I think you'll like; I'll bring it with to BLADE like we talked about

Happy Memorial Day!

A huge thank you to those currently serving, all our veterans, and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the freedoms we all enjoy today.

God bless!

Yep you are definitely right, we have one decent window sill here that gets good lighting and its currently full of plants... Not edible or medicinal though, just plants my daughter liked so i put them up for her really.

I often think about growing some stuff in my basement again. I still have full spectrum grow lights and stuff and they work great, but its a give and take, if i grow in my basement i wont have ANYWHERE to play with knives.... I need somewhere to play with knives :D

Happy Memorial day all!!!

Happy Memorial Day. Remember those who served.

Note to self: pick up TM Hunt knife before binge begins.

Moved a recliner for mother and this fell out. No idea.

Help me out here guys. Saw this in Southern Living magazine. What exactly is being advertised? If you were asked to supply captions, what would you put? (Keep it clean.)
