It was a good gear weekend. A project a buddy and I tested worked marvelously and I have a few new toys to play with:

Picked the Gawdawful green Izula up at SMKW this weekend (as well as a pink one for the wife) & a buddy gave me the bear bottle opener. I'm not sure which one I was the most exited about.

All look pretty useful to me!

Today was a bit of a slow day at work. In my downtime I started doodling and designing a few blades. I think I may have scared one of my co-workers a little bit hehe. None of them were full size, I think I may scale a few to size and cut em out to see if I like em.

Very cool! Would love to see 'em.

one of my coworkers said: "no, that's not creepy at all!"
she holds a black belt in sarcasm.

Rough and really bad sketches without any technical measurements (will do that later)... but I was just thinking on paper a little bit.
The top one I was thinking something along the lines of a Karbar Potbelly but with a thicker wooden handle and a guard on it.
The second one down was similar to something I was working on with Woody but slightly larger. FFG and maybe some subtle jimping.
Third one down was a bushcrafter that I was just thinking on paper with handle contours.
#4 was a tacticool fighter/ thrower (something that I would of heaved at the person that was on the other end of the phone with me at the time).
#5 I think would make a pretty neat belt knife if it was FFG. For some reason I dig the look and feel of recurves.
Which gets to the second from the bottom. I was thinking gladius since I love the recurved design, but for using it an a combat situation I wouldn't like both sides sharpened. I was thinking about the brute a bit and the flat section near the top. That may add a little bit of weight towards the tip and increase its functionality. Cap it off with a sharpened pommel and it would be my personal choice for some fencing or chopping work.
The last one at the bottom I remembered MM bending his 16 and was curious to see how something with a little bit of an angled handle would look.

I'm thinking of doing the specs up for #2,#5, and maybe a wooden cut out of the gladius to see if I actually like it.

Looking good TBL!!

Looks like im not the only one who sits around drawing knife designs :D

I dont have the tools to make a knife but i love drawing them up.

Haha! ya, I'd draw them on the wood first and cut them out with my bandsaw. I'd do the shaping with my belt/disk sander / dremmel. I have a nice set of wood files that eats away wood quickly if the sanders are not going fast enough.

;) I've been _that guy_ when it comes to acquiring power tools for jobs around the house. The only two things I am missing right now is a drill press and a large belt grinder. The drill press I will buy eventually. The large belt grinder I'm going to build with my brother in-law when I finish my garage. I have a 8 or 10hp electric motor sitting here waiting to be hooked up :D

Ironically, I DO have a drill press that I inherited from my grandpa when he passed... Had to fight off my uncle and three cousins for it. Thankfully they know I'm the guy with lots of knives so it wasn't TOO much of a fight.
