the sound of one hand opening

Kershaw Avalanche. Don't open one on the street! More impressive than many switchblades.

I have heard a lot of knives open and close and I don't think that I have ever heard a knife open louder and stronger than the BM 750 Pinnacle. You'd think that thing had a firecracker in the hande.

Best sound ???
My Spyderco Matriarch !!
First time I opened it I thought someone was behind me with a big switchblade.
Couldn't believe a Zytel handled one was making such a "clak".

Last night, going through some old boxes in my apartment, I found my old Schrade LB7 (their big folding hunter like Buck's 110). DAMN that thing makes an evil "clack" when opened! Incidentally, to me, those knives were the original one-hand opening folders. Forget the one armed bandits or other after-market gadgetry, these are a breeze to open one handed right out of the box. And did I mention that SOUND?! :-)

My vote is the sound of a nice cold beer can opening. Oops, this is bladeforums and not beer forums, isn't it?

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by 'broken in'? I'm kinda new to quality knives, remember? I just graduated from $12 slipjoint Chinese pocketknives.

I'd say the Whirlwind. Nice and impressive, complete with the 'switchblade' opening.

I am going to agree with chief, the LCC makes the greatest noise. A nice solid THUNK.

My votes go for the Spydie Chinook and ting (the sound of a kinetic opening: "OWWW! click".

My M14 sniper used to make a cool zzzziiiip sound. For my folders, its gotta be my Starmate. It makes a fairly loud nooook sound.

By far my Bali sounds the coolest. Withmy Endura II and Kershaw Blackout (before it broke) following closly behind.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

Whirlwind, by broken in, I mean the lock was stiffer and engaged tighter. So tight that I had an extremely sore thumb for the next two weeks. It took me 10 minutes to close it once. Now it's easier to disengage, but is just as strong of a lock.

It seemed to click louder when the lock was tighter.

I hadn't really thought about it, so I have been flicking and clicking away for the last few minutes. I have to say that my A.G.Russell Walker lock makes the neatest sound. The steel liners are quite strong, and as it slips off the ball detent and snaps into place behind the blade, there is the neat, sweet, "ker-snick". With the handle being open at the back, when you hold it just right in your hand, it gives a nice hollow metal sounding ring.

I'm wearing a hole in my thumb, listening to my knife sing over and over again...

My Pinnacle sounds great, the Ti slabs resonate perfectly....POP!

A knife is by default a tool, it's only a weapon when a human chooses to make it so.

I would have to say my wood inlayed small Sebenza that came in todays mail.
In addition to it I have the Zulu Trio", but the sound on opening of the "Woody" is quite different to the other three, all three of which open with bank vault authority.

The Lcc sounds like it's opening inside a cave or underwater or something. The small Sebenza has a righteous little clack, the Pinnacle has a mighty clack and the Sere has an authoritative lockup sound that reminds me of cocking a Remington pump.
