The Spyderco Pochi is adorable

Pochi!
If you hate this knife you are an enemy of fun.

Carried it for the first time on Friday at work. Other than opening an occasional box, I don't need a large knife so this one should work for 99% of what I use a knife for at work.

Mine has a QC issue where the lock bar doesn't engage if you slowly open the knife. Even flipping the blade out, it's iffy unless you put a ton of wrist flick into it. Not sure if i'll return it at this point or see if it gets better with a little use.

I'll update after some more pocket time.

Well, damn. I just checked mine.

have you tried giving it some break in time?

iirc I had a similar issue when my spydie chef first arrived, cleared up after a week of fidgeting with it

it's a really cool knife, bummer to hear this potential issue

Update on this
I called Spyderco to follow-up since they got it 28DEC. They accused me of messing with the knife since the screws were rounded and there were fingerprints inside the scales. When I called BS on this the representative backpedaled and said maybe it happened at the place where I bought it. Well, it came directly from you Spyderco.

I received this knife new from Spyderco, took a few photos, then put it in a box. There it sat until I saw Kreyzhorse post about the issues with it. I saw mine had the same issue, shot my video, then sent it to Spyderco. I never adjusted screws or took it apart because none of that was going to fix this issue. Any issues with this knife happened in Spyderco's factory or outlet store. I really did not appreciate the tone of this interaction at all.

That sounds rather disappointing. Have you tried reaching out directly to Sal or his son on social media?

He seems like he's pretty diligent about these sort of things. I'd be amazed if he gave you a hard time.

I wonder how they're doing after the holidays... I wonder if life doesn't begin again until 1/15 anyways

Honestly, this might be the last straw for me with them. This isn’t the first such experience I've had with their warranty department. A few years ago I almost liquidated my Spyderco collection because of some issues and this is pushing me further in that direction. I've had so many good experiences with service from other companies (Benchmade, Hinderer, Chris Reeve, even Emerson whose knives I hate) so an experience like this really stands out negatively. I just moved from Colorado and visited the factory store several times while I lived there. If you go in person the experience is totally different; they are super nice and helpful. Any time I've had to deal with them via phone or email it's bad.

That's a bummer. Keep your spirits up, maybe someone will see this and do you right. Good luck with this!

I'm still hoping Sal pops in and saves the day, but I guess the world will keep spinning regardless.

Without getting into the details, I’ve been treated the same way by their warranty department when they said my PM1 lock issue must have been caused by me when it was bought with the issue (over travel, major blade play). You should not have to bring it to Sal’s attention here before real warranty work is done.

It’s not the first time for me either. My guess is that it’s some blanket statement they give in case they don’t want to cover something. It’s not a great way to do business. They also said they haven’t heard about this Pochi issue from anyone else which is almost certainly not true. I’ve heard of at least three other knives with the same issue and the owners supposedly contacted them.

That is really unfortunate.

Still, in my questionable opinion, I'd much rather deal with Spyderco's customer service than the IRS or State Bar Associations...

Doesn't make it any easier dealing with a grouch, someone who's having a shitty day and treats me like a jerk, that's never fun

I would still be curious what @Sal Glesser would say about this, or someone else from the group

Who else has received a Pochi warranty replacement?
Mine was only partially better than the original. The replacement would not fold without moving the lock bar, which is good, but the lock bar is still easily pushed to the opposite scale, not good. I don’t trust this not to have more issues down the road. I called the same day I got it and arranged to return it to the factory store for a refund. The whole point of this knife was something fun and it’s not fun anymore. The customer service rep was helpful, not the same person I dealt with before.

Just got one and mine looks just like this :(
Sometimes the lock bar won’t engage all the way either and you can push on the spine and have it close.
I’m very disappointed.
I’ve had terrible customer service experience with Spyderco in the past so i probably won’t be sending this in.
I don’t know if at this point i should even try with a replacement or if i should just try and get a refund from the vendor.

I guess I was luckier than you, I saw this thread so I skipped it.
