Gev Thanks for the pattern reference link, OT but that ANGLO-SAXON is a pattern I've never seen an example of but the Sleeveboard style, large size, cut-out, tip bolsters AND sunk-joints send me into a Knirvarna :D We all know that pattern 'names' are pretty promiscuous according to current usage etc but I was interested to see what are now termed TUXEDO (clearly a more recent term) were then regarded as SWELL-CENTRE PENS, some having tip bolsters too. The list of common and rare names for patterns at the end was particularly useful.

JP As always, thanks for your kind words and help, much valued.

Charles The bone on those Robeson Swell-Centre Jacks, pure beauty

Here's another that I like from recent times: Queen Cutlery No.48 Swell Centre Whittler in WCSB and D2 steel, a fine compact 3 blade.

There are some fantastic knives in this thread! I hadn't realized there was such a variety of swell centers out there. It's fun to see them all here side by side. Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Gev!

These are the swell center patterns that I'm fortunate to have represented in my collection:
