The Sunday Picture Show... (2-26-2017) <OLD SHOW LOOK AT DATE>

Hi All,

What a fantastic SPS you all have running today! Armand thank you sir for this is truly the GSOE and what a nice looking 692 with the Red Fox etch.

Michale, That's another awesome looking custom auto 110. Thanks for sharing it.

SHB you are a humble man, I also like the large display accoutrements in your photo's. Like the other one you have shown in the past with schrim work on it. Inquiring minds want to know where to find such items? You have quite the large collection of prehistoric Ivory handled knives, thank you for sharing them with us.

Makael, have you ever tried meditation? It's good for the nerves.....lol ;). I love the Tempest and Sirus pattern knives.

Here is the matching 110 for Armand's Red Fox.

elqfaltaba10----- May I ask a question , where did you buy these knives at I looked closely at the , Federal and the scale next to the front bolster is in my opinion approx 1/16 a little over 1.5 mm longer than the bolster itself. there is not part of a head showing on any of the knives ,so none are a WELD, Buck knives have better quality than what is shown.

I'm puzzling to understand what you are saying here Michael. Are you seeing the reflection of the scale on the blade making it look wider than the bolster???

I'm speaking out of turn here. But, my guess is the shadow from the blades hollow grind is giving the illusion that the wood handle is wider than the brass bolster on the two pin knife in this photo (nothing more than an illusion).

Great show as usual guys. Thanks to all for posting. I really like that fox etch on both the 192 and the 110. I have yet to find one to add to my collection.

Here are a few Odyssey's. I also have one with a damascus handle but no time to take a new picture today. Sorry for the blurry picture.

No, BuckShack, Buck offered these knives regularly. 3000 of each have been made. I have no idea who made the scales for Buck.
May be Buck made them by themself. Haebbie

The pewter scales were made by a belt buckle company. I have or have seen the literature that came with them. There was a third pewter 110 with a Harley Davidson theme. I have not been successful in landing that one yet.

It was The Great American Buckle Company... probably defunct.

I'll try a Nettie pot in a bit.:D

Yes but I do not think it is a reflection and to be sure I asked him to open the blades and take another picture. Just to see if it is or isn't.

JB4570-- I posted a pic of the anniversary set to show the man the WELD knife has an etch of Chuck Buck's head protruding when it is closed. He is saying he has a WELD knife I don;t see a knife with any etching. I am just trying to help the man out and then noticed that the scale looks wider than the bolster. I asked him to please take a pic with the blades open, that's all. Yes I admit it could be an illusion cameras do odd things and distort especially if the lens is not ground correctly. He says this is a camera from an I-phone, so I don't use phone cameras because of poor quality, until recently.

A buildout from 2 years ago. I have no idea what the wood species is.

Oh, Thank you. I thought perhaps the pewter scales were very limited and crafted by hand in Germany. To me, that would be really cool. Well, they are still really cool anyway.

Thank you for the info. I will be on the lookout for these.

Finally, after a few years of searching, I have gotten a "Federal", in my humble opinion the best model of all the variations of this mythical pocket knife.

A photo of my 110 family and the data of each model.

A custom 110:
Buck 110 Hunter Charcoal Drop Point 5160 BOS Factory Exclusive First Production Run #0110GYSSH1 (035) 2016

Main models of the evolution of Buck 110 Hunter:
Buck 110 Hunter #0110BRS-B “ - Weld” 2013 (1981 - today)
Buck 110 Hunter “Magnolia” -Two Dots Variation 4 (1974) 20
Buck 110 Hunter “Federal” - Variation 8 (1968-1970) 13

Happy Sunday to all.

I don't see the word Weld here. The scale reflection is from the base of the blade.

Very nice set you have.

My "survival knife" from yesterday's hike up Little Mount Si here in Washington Cascades. It served it's it's purpose well opening food packages and whatnot. I'm really loving the Nano, perfect little pocket knife.

elqfaltaba10-- Here is what I want to look for on your Magnolia, the 440c, bos heat treat, and number. All of the anniversary knives should be numbered 1-500. All sets 1-110 are followed by a D

I already understand what the problem is. These Buck are original models, not 50th anniversary commemorative editions or replicas.

On a personal level, to name these knives in an easy-to-remember way, I have chosen to name them as Federal, Magnolia, and Weld, as a denomination to each of the evolutions in body shape and blade that have happened along of its history.

A new question to the most connoisseurs of Buck's history, the "Federal" "Magnolia" and "Weld" denominations can only be applied the commemorative 50th anniversary editions or are they commonly used for the three generations of the 110?

I think my use of this terminology is the reason why my post has caused bewilderment.

The codes on the three blades:

Armand opened the show with the 1991 Red Fox. One of my two all time favorite Vanguards.
Here is the rest of the gang for 1991... the first year for this model series.
(yes, I need to work on my lighting)

I think I would limit the names to the commemorative knives. Otherwise, confusion will reign.

Yes I felt the heat from other members but this started early and they were joining without knowing what I knew and said to you. My mind is clear, I was just trying to help you that's all. You call your knives anything you want. Is that an original version 1 variation 1 with the 2 inlay pins. If you measure the width it should be 1/2 inch wide after version 3 the knives were made 9/16 wide, one way to tell. I see that the knife is stamped on the tang, buck. I have a original version 1 variation 1 and the word -buck-is stamped horizontal on the right side. The original Federal !! You Have A Good Day Sir.

jb, Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful Buck knives each week also:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:Most of what I find is on the big auction site, but every once in a while I'll come across something I like at flea market or on local listings....:)

Since I grew out the lumberjack beard this winter I figure I could get a little last minute batoning in this morning while walking the dog. the 585 is a beast:D:thumbup::thumbup:

I still have the beard at Skyler's request but I think there will be a "Desert Chris" style shaving on one of the next few SPS's:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Great show everyone, keep the Bucks coming:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
