The Sunday Picture Show... (5-25-2014) ... (Memorial weekend)

Sometimes a non - venomous snake will twitch its tail rapidly like a rattler..... if it is in dry brush etc it can be a bit alarming.
If you aren't sure, it is best to leave them alone.
Baby a rattlers have no self control, and if they bite you, you will get ALL the venom they have....
The adults tend to give you a more controlled dose.

The photo you posted does look like a hognose though..... I had a pair of them for pets as a youth.
Not seeing a rattle in that photo either.

Around here we have Mojave Green Rattlers, very aggresive and jumpy buggers...... we have had a few out back just about every year.
Also around here, but less common, are the Southern Pacific Rattler.... very spazzy but less dangerous venom.

I keep shovels in various places out back.....best defense tool..... and final......

Thanks Chris, great info! The [photo] of the HOGNOSE was only to show what other species it could of been? for my area, That was just a stock photo not what I saw an discribed seeing, and believed it to be....I firmly believe it was a North East Timber Rattler less than a foot long. Tip of the tail had about 1" 1/2 of white looking beads.
