The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

So... I posted on the FB page and now have a 4.1 and a set of micarta scales on the way. The S!K crew here and on FB are a great bunch of guys.

Got my 5.1 and my new RTIC cooler in today. Was a great mail-call this afternoon. I'll take pictures when I get some time

had to look them up and even then I didn't get the name..until i did!! they look awesome, I would be curious how you end up liking it!

Almost had a heart attack. Please specify that it is an old-spec-new-to-you 5.1 :)

Thought for a second you got a starter 5.1 today!

Lmao sorry bud. Can't wait to load this cooler with food for a week and go truck camping and use my SURVIVE!'s. I've never car camped but the new cooler is definitely a reason to do so.

Very nice! I'm looking forward to seeing how the project develops
If you find yourself in a typing mood I'd be interested in a run down of everything in the collection that might not be immediately recognizable.

Do you think of this storage method as an easy way to see and grab what you need as well as long term storage?

Definitely do that

I did, and added them to my short list. Paying 300-400 for a cooler was never in my wheel house, but cut that in half...

I've heard that a BHK sheath would fit a 4.1. Is there a friction fit leather sheath that would fit the 3.5? I like sage gear but there expensive, and I would prefer a friction fit.

I think i saw someone using a KSF sheath but memory escapes me who and which model sheath exactly. It was a pocket model though if that matters?

I'm looking for a friction sheath with a belt loop and a dangler would be a bonus. If I can't find one I'll just make it my self. I figure I can't do too bad I made one for the tiny_toothpick and his knife.

It's not the best but I've seen worse and it was my first attempt with minimal tools. Non of which were made for leather work.

The #9 sheath for the Battle Horse Knives works great for the 4.1 but it's to big for the 3.5. They do make quite a few for different sizes.

This is the 4.1

HOLY BALLS, I was searching for something in our subforum last night and found myself in the old S! thread in General Discussion that came before our subforum. WOW did that place get nasty. I didn't really have the perspective on S!'s history here in Bladeforums. It made me more thankful for our current community and the state of Guy's business!

There were actually a couple of threads in the General section. The first one got shut down due to the nastyness. Another was started some time later in an attempt to discuss the knives without the nastyness, but over time it too fell into abyss. Chiral was around then as we're a few others I see around here from time to time. This is the main reason I got so excited to see a S! sponsored subforum. I'm not sure how the rest of you folks feel, but I will do my part to keep this place civil. This is Guy's house, and we all are guests here. At least this is the way I look at it.

Amen! We all should be glad for a place like this to come and give complaints if needed but it should never come to being nasty toward anyone on this forum.

If someone's feeling nasty that day there is the wine and cheese and other such sub forums if I'm not mistaken.

Great job  Regardless of the final outcome, a sheath made by Dad is way cooler than something bought elsewhere.

Regarding the 3.5 in leather, I'd bet a UKE that Dwayne/Leatherman of armorall leather could hook you up. He's a contributor to bladeforums.

Another option may be the #4 sheath from Ray at Wild Boar Blades http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Wild-Boar-Blades-is-great-for-Leather-sheaths!

Ray's sheaths aren't as polished, but the #4 I bought from him was very inexpensive and fit my Rodent Solution (a similar sized knife) perfectly. I just added a dangler loop on my own.

FWIW - I believe JRE Industries does the Battle Horse/Blind Horse and L T Wright sheaths. http://www.jreindustries.com/ I really like their sheaths and they make the best strop, the strop bat, that I've ever used.

Chuck Dominick of Chubby Bear Leather made three or four sheaths for me. http://chuddybearleather.com/ He does great work but he's in high demand.

Awesome! Thanks. And yea he wants to carry that thing everywhere. He lost his blue knife so he's been packing plastic wear for the holidays. He's usually good at re sheathing it before he walks off. Trying to get him trained early.

Yea the look and functionality of the JRE sheath is what I was looking for.
