The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

also since we keep sharing coffee blends, I don't drink enough coffee yet so I try out different things regularly, this was today:

and for a snow total update... this is my folks house about 45 mins west of me:

I live in Point of Rocks and the drifts are easily 5-6 feet deep in front of my house. The back yard also has huge drifts in them, but there is a place where the grass is showing. The wind is insane right now so i am not sure what the actual totals are going to be in spots with no drifts. I am sure schools will be closed for at least 3 days, maybe more. It started snowing yesterday around 1330 and has not slowed down since. It is 1920 as I type

Nice, redwood! That looks like the more caringly crafted, local coffee. Enjoy! I gotta support your dark blend selection. What did you put in the coffee? Looks more like hot chocolate!

Seriously crazy about your parents place!

Stay safe everyone! Prayers for those stuck at work and not at home.

Way to go super dad. You are more outnumbered than I'll ever be. A 5 month old in the mix? Wow!

outnumbered indeed! Poor guy! I hope the wife makes it back to reenforce the ranks! I just took the dog out...failure snowdrifts at least 4 ft deep will have to dig him out a latrine... Nothing in the coffee, I only have a pour over so its very resiny. I try to pick up the local roast, but some blends have been awful...dark roast all the way. Sorry Riz! I'd email you a cup if I could! Someone also mentioned Dunkin doughnuts, apparently those started in the NE where my wife is from and are more popular than starbucks up there. I must admit they make a good cup of coffee!

She went in last night and has been there all day today, will be there all night tonight and all day tomorrow. They had people not make it in this morning. Personally I think they all should have gone in last night. The hospital blocked off rooms for all the nurses to stay and paid them $8.00 an hour just to be there when they werent actually working. When their shift starts they are all getting time and a half. It sucks to be stuck here with a 6 yo, 4 yo and 5 month old baby but, wifey is making buku bucks. She thinks that she is gonna get home tomorrow, but as far as I can tell they arent even plowing around here. The snow is almost 3 feet deep in the middle of the street in my neighborhood. The highway might be clear, but she wont get into the neighborhood for sure.

Yea the wife went in friday at 9 am and will likely be there until sunday evening or monday...the money is no joke, but if we had three kids that would be tough!

God bless your womenfolk!

Lando could use a few lessons in that, he was really excited until he got stuck then he just looked at me with that "f-this" face. Definitely not as hardy as a hunting dog!

Lando, that's a great dog name. Well if he gets stuck in the snow at least you can find him by his tail. Kinda like the flags they put on those dune buggies. :)

haha yea, he was born with a defect in his tail, it is shaped like a candy cane on the end so we keep it fluffy for his wimpy ego.

Haha that door picture is great!!! I think I can see your newspaper on the right side about 3 feet under that weird white stuff.

Ok... I am not a big drinker, but decided I needed a beverage after a serious shoveling session. So I got creative... A snowball with Jager poured over it and then coke zero added. Its actually quite tasty! Im surprised.

redwood, great looking coffee! Your pour over sounds serious, I'm so lazy with my machine!

Riz, as I was reading I though "snowball? Isn't that a type of shot?" then I realized you literally used a ball of snow for your drink, awesome!

h minus, here's part of our chat from the pic thread:

Silver Needle What have you been using?
h minus Silver Needle, I've been a Kabar USMC lover since I bought my first one in March of 1986 when I arrived at ft. Bragg as a newly assigned Airborne Infantryman in the 82nd. I fell in love with the 1219C2 F/U pattern that that's all I've used. Got several that I've accumulated through out the years laying around in my BOBs. Every time I've set foot in the outdoors the Kabar and a SAK Huntsman is all I've used for 34 years, and never looked back. About 8 years ago I purchased an RC6 (ESSE now) to see what the full tang, brutish designs that were becoming all the rage bandwagon was all about. Used it hard on 2 outings and though it is a good knife, it felt heavy and blocky on my belt so in the safe it went. For my approach to the outdoors and my techniques my Kabar USMC is plenty strong. I wrote a comment on the Kabar forum in the thread titled " what do you use your Kabar USMC for" started by a member called Semper Praesidio. In my reply I wrote my personal military experience with this knife and if you want to read it you'll better understand why I have been living in a cave in regards to the knife market. Thanks for inquiring bud!

I will definitely have to check out your Kabar post. A Kabar "marine knife" with synthetic handle and sheath was my first real knife. It was world's better than what I had been using, but not too long after I found knives with full tangs and handle slabs. I've thought of starting a thread about what other knives are valued by SURVIVORS!, if nothing more than community building, but maybe a cool way to see what other brands are liked by the people who enjoy super reliable, straightforward, super steel blades.

H minus... There is a great thread on the kabar utility knife (just a kabar without the usmc stamp and a differdnt pommel) in the edged tools section of another forum that is dedicated to bushcrafting in the usa. They are a respectable blade for sure, with great history.

Riz, I've seen that thread on the Kabar dogshead. If it's the same one by lost viking its also in this forum. He did such a great job.

Has anyone else had any bad experiences with Survive! www.SurviveKnives.com? I placed a pre-order for their 3.5 on June 8, 2015. Their site clearly states pre-orders take 3-6 months. On January 6, 2016, I had enough and decided to cancel this pre-order. I called and left a message, emailed them from the confirmation email, posted a comment on their Facebook page, and used their own "contact us" form on their website and heard nothing back for a week. In the meanwhile thinking I would never hear from them, I started a dispute with my credit card company. The next day Survive emailed me and said they'd refund me my money via Paypal, but I'd have to cancel the dispute first. They said they'd give me a refund, but not two. Apparently they were not familiar with this process. Needless to say I wasn't comfortable doing that and I emailed Survive again requesting they reconsider. They would have proof via Paypal that they sent me the refund that they could use to show the credit card company if they thought I was some dirtbag. They did not respond. I took a chance with them. I pre-ordered and prepaid $169 to them that they've sat on for over seven months and they won't do the right thing. So, now I have to wait 45 days for the dispute process. Buyer beware I guess...

Hello Law Dog,

Actually, their website states this:

"Disclaimer: We do not have a set delivery date for preordered knives, be sure to sign up for our newsletter to receive regular production updates."

I'm sorry for your trouble, but as for having to wait 45 days, I've got to disagree. They have offered a refund, but you refused to drop the dispute. Drop the dispute and they will issue the refund. They are a stand-up company that gets too optimistic on their delivery times. But in this case, Ellie made no promises on delivery on the starter orders.

Also, like Riz, I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but this is better put in a new thread, not the pic thread. Hang around and check things out. It might alleviate a few of your fears and show you what the company is about.

Cheers

Totally not trying to be a douche but I think we should bump this conversation to the chat thread. Too much words, not enough pics... I am guilty of it too...

Hello Hard Knocks,

I understand completely how dates get pushed back for multiple issues. Had they simply replied to one of my multiple attempts at communicating with them, I wouldn't have started the dispute with my credit card company. Since they took so long replying, I don't have much confidence in their actions. I will be screwed if I cancel this dispute and then they either continue to refuse to communicate any further with me or just simply drag out the refund and I have zero recourse with my credit card company since I cancelled the dispute.

I apologize for placing this in the wrong thread. I didn't see another one that was more appropriate.

No problem. This might be a feedback issue, but maybe we can discuss it in the chat thread. Click here and I will copy and paste this in the chat thread and we can try to go from there.
