The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

I put a vid on YouTube of a decent 10pointer but I've got no idea how to paste it on here. Any help?

Oh heck ya! That's a good buck. I'll try to get it to embed.....

Brought a thought up in another thread but it's more appropriate here. I'm not sure about the Bladeforums rules on stuff like this but can we start a passaround here? I think the 2.7 has already shown to be hit or miss for some people, it'd be perfect for people to get a hold of to see if they dig it or not. I happen to really like it, I'd love more people to get a chance to try it out. I'd want it back at some point so I'd prefer to limit it to people active on this subforum or people I know. Pretty simple rules, insure when you ship, put up some pictures, thoughts, insults, reviews, etc after you've tried it out.

Oh yea I'm for sure down. But with some of our skills lacking in the wet stone department are you sure you want us sharpening it? I was really curious after the 2.7 come out, but momma has locked my knife funds till further notice. ( I got a few handmade blades, back to back)

As long as no one lets it get dead ass dull it should be fine. If someone puts it on a Wicked Edge and thins it out to 10 dps or something like that we'd have a problem but as long as no one's cutting rebar or cinder blocks or something silly like that a little maintenance stropping should be all it needs. If need be it can be sent back to me to whip it back into shape.

Broke out the EDC 4 tonight to do fire duty for some grilled chicken 🐓 fresh corn and some carrots, asparagus, and sweet onions.

Also made some more charred cloth. I tried getting one with the ember burning but I was trying to get my dinner started to .

Here's was the coals getting ready. I use denim for mine cause I wear out blue jeans like crazy. So might as well repurpose them.

It didn't charr as well as I hoped. I got a much better cloth out of my backpacking stove. I've only made it a few times though. Really loving flint and steel.

Tex, do you have a small hole in the top, and did you give it a flip after the first smoke clears? I get a better char on it if I flip after the first smoke and let it go a bit more. I've produced it with denim, but have had better luck with cotton tshirts. Another gentleman uses larger barrel cleaning patches because they are precut. I haven't tried those, but have no reason to doubt him.

Nice work TT!
I'll have to try making some from denim one of these days. I've never heard of using that before.

Any of you guys read swords and sorcery type fantasy fiction? If you were ever moved by Tolkien and you're willing to wade through 3.325 millinon'ish words and 11 thousand + pages and you can deal with having your heart ripped out of your chest and ground into crumbling dust in front of your bemused face, this is the story for you. I've read the series a dozen plus times, and I'm just getting through the Audible presentation of the last couple books.

Oh ya. Fellow Tolkien nerd here :D Always loved how some of his characters were totally incorruptible. Best running theme of the series for me.

The denim seems to be working well for me. I haven't seen it first hand, but I've read a few places of denim actually producing a flame by its self.

I will have to flip it over next time, I only made a small batch to h a very a little. How long do you leave it on the reverse side?

About a third as long as the first burn. If you're still able to see any smoke escaping the hole it's still charring down. That's probably going to be pretty hard to see in the coals though.

Have you been able to produce a fire from the flint & steel without the use of charcloth? I can get it with cloth, but without it, it's a no go for me.

I hadn't tried yet. All the natural tender around here has been saturated so it's been difficult even with a lighter. I have home made fire starters but tend to use natural before anything. (Till I get pissed and douse it with 10 gallons of gasoline and break outhe the blow torch!) :)

Lol. I'm sure not too good to break out some diesel if I've got it available. :) But I really like knowing how to do it with as little to work with as possible. Two properties of charcloth that make it valuable to me: It accepts a really 'cool' spark, like off a flint & steel, and it gets hotter with any air movement, so no problems in the wind.

I want to give a shout out to Jon here (hunterjrg). I picked up his 4.1 and he sent a really nice sagewood sheath with it, not to mention an extra slipjoint. Very cool of him

And even though I didn't get to put it to use this weekend, I can tell by the feel that I am going to like this model. No wonder it's one of S!K's best sellers.

So cool! Way to be, hunter!

Is this what happens to long time SURVIVE! customers? They can't help but send extra goods along with a GSO :D

Awesome to hear Hard Knocks!
The 4.1 is an amazing, do almost everything knife. I'm glad to hear you're liking it. Congrats on the extras also!

Ha! I hadn't thought about that. Good things do rub off in here :)

It is more substantial than I thought it would be. I should have picked up one earlier!

I figured it needed to go out in style with the Sagewood sheath. Too bad you couldn't use it this weekend. Any bears?

I was pulling into my driveway on my property and across the street on the edge of the field was a really nice buck. One I haven't seen before but definitely a shooter. Bow season starts starts Sat and the longbow is shooting good. The compound is sighted to 60 yards. I just have to figure a way around the mosquitoes. They are really bad now.

We were able to sneak in an archery shoot on Labor Day
