The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

It's amazing how little life means to so many people. From taking it for granted or having the indecency to take it away from someone else. Sorry for Mr. Swanson's family and friends, cause in the end they are the ones left in pain, and suffering from such a great loss.

Yeah man. I am sorry for your loss. Its pretty messed up that you can survive Viet-Nam and then lose your life to some shitbag here in the greatest country on earth.

Thank you guys. Here's a link to what went on if you're interested in the story. The horrible part is that these lives could've been saved if the 5150 ward held the killer for 72 hours instead of releasing him after 48 because of overcrowding. Riverside County just got nailed with a wrongful death lawsuit over this and I honestly hope they get taken to the cleaners because this senseless act could've been avoided.

I ran my first Half Marathon today. The Navy-Air Force Half in DC. I was impressed, there was a ton of amputee wounded warriors running it. MAD RESPECT!

Wow that's awesome that you did that bud! It's quite amazing how well most of these troops can adapt and overcome with the injuries they have. It's never ending bravery.

Yeah most were single leg, below the knee. I saw a few above the knee and one dude that had both arms above the elbow. Double hooks. I really felt bad for him, but I know thats not what he wants. You know what was best? 12000 people dead silent, all standing for the national anthem. Not a single dumbass on a knee. I think a great many people have no clue what real sacrifice and honor and patriotism actually is. There were also a lot of people representing their branch of service by running with a full size flag with thier branch insignia. It was cool. The run started right at the base of the washington monument and weaved around all of the monuments and federal buildings and ended back at the base of the monument.

I just found a SURVIVE! thread in the general forum by accident.

If y'all find chatter anywhere out there about SURVIVE! let a brother know :D

It seems like one of them has a personal issue with you because you apparently looked at the thread. Now he's over in W&C talking shit behind your back like a pre-pubescent little teenage girl. The man-boy doesn't even have the balls to say something directly to you. Talk about a pathetic excuse for a man.

I put together a start to a thread for dressing small game with larger blades in the hunting section. It's got images of things being cleaned, so if you don't want to see those, don't click the link here. First cleaning started off with a non-survive blade, so I hope this link is okay. And if not, just let me know Ellie.

Haha, only reason I run is if I'm being chased by something bigger and scarier then me. Congrats bro that's quite a haul.

I'm behind here, but...

Standard, so sorry to hear that news again. Losing family is never easy.

Riz, way to go! Quite an accomplish and for a great reason!

I have a thread idea, but wanted some input first.

We have so much back and forth in the threads of various models trying to figure out who ordered what and when once we see that they have a new order received.

What if the first post in the thread was a list of models and as people received their orders they could post in the thread. As we see confirmation I could update the various models and it might look like this:

July X Monday sale: shipping
August X Monday sale: shipping
August X Monday sale: not shipping
4.7 preorders: shipping
CruForge preorders: shipping
2.7 preorders: not shipping

It would be more specific and "real time" compared to the production schedule.

Here's what I want to know: would this be useful? Would this be stepping on toes?

I think there could be a production schedule thread. You could do exactly what you describe in that thread and Ellie could also contribute there.

That production schedule thread would become a pretty busy place because there are so many categories for each model.
For example there are Starters, Presales, 2nds, Uglies, Customs, and for the 4.7 there are four different steel variants.
Each of those categories and variants are on different delivery schedules.
At the moment similar information is being collected (in a casual manner) in a thread for each model as folks post about the knives that they have received.
For at least one model somebody (see how precise I'm being here :) ) posted a timeline of all the production update status changes, and it was impressive.
It was also more work than I'd be willing to put into tracking the various models.
Once the model starts shipping the status doesn't really change, and since models like the 4.7 started shipping in February and are still shipping today it could tell you when the model started shipping but wouldn't tell you anything about when all the orders will be completed.
For example, do we know if all the 4.7 starter orders have been filled yet?

Riz, there is a production schedule thread, but it seems like info gets so diluted between threads and lost in the conversations. I was thinking of something that just gives us the bullet points to see all in one spot. Maybe it's not needed, but the idea interested me.

Fancier, you bring up a lot of the cons that I was thinking of and some that I didn't think of. The biggest pro would be having more info in just one spot.

Sadly, as far as 4.7's I think there's plenty more to go.

I attest, they have not. :o Must have been a LOT of orders for the model... and/or a lot of mistakes becoming 2nds and bettys...

Didn't a lot of 3v 4.7 and 5.1 blanks get mishandled on the way back to the shop? I thought that's where the extra hand work and finishing was coming in and backing everything way up.

Those are some of the crucial pieces of information that we simply aren't going to be able to track.
Well I'm thinking the first post would be updated off of the posts that are added to the thread. If 19,000 people post that they're still missing a certain model from a certain run, then we'd know that model still has a ways to go. If nobody is saying they are waiting on an order and we see the production schedule confirm that a model is all finished, then we'd have that answer. It may be more trouble than it's worth or not accurate enough to be helpful that's why I'm asking.

There are a lot of folks that are treating their knife orders like surprise gifts that they are giving themselves. This tends to reduce their stress level.
I'm taking a middle ground, where I keep fairly close track of what is happening but I'm not excessively focused on delivery dates.
Oh, for anybody worried about Guy going out of business remember that the man has a tattoo of his company logo on his wrist.
That is a pretty serious long term commitment. ;)

Silver, I like your idea.

Its going to be a ton of work though.

I moved this from the 2.7 thread to here...

I cant not agree more with Hale Storm, Hard Nocks, Clip and the others. I want so badly for S!K to succeed and grow, but man... i really feel like they need to concentrate on one knife model at a time. One steel choice, maybe 3-5 handle choices and black kydex and raise the prices. Buy a fixed amount of steel and offer only for sale what you know can make from that steel. The price per each finished knife should be determined by the cost of materials, processing of materials and man hours. It should be high enough to allow each knife to pay for itself, materials for the next run, business costs and a profit big enough for Guy and Ellie to live on. I truly believe their product is top notch and they can sell for a higher price. The reason the cant keep up is because their product is ABSOLUTELY under priced. They are manufacturing low volume/high quality productsand trying to sell at high volume prices. Its basic business and economics. I firmly believe that most of their issues arise from the flat out refusal to raise their prices. I would still buy them if they were $100 more expensive. ESPECIALLY if I knew I was going to have to wait less.

I too was shocked with the limited presale of the 7/7. I did not order one. I am still waiting for my 4.5 bushcraft. I do not mind waiting for it at all. I knew I was going to be waiting when I ordered. I just feel like they are starting to make poor business choices.

My prediction is that they are going to start losing the one time customers that are potentially repeat buyers. Dudes and ladies that are willing to wait once, but then wont want to wait again. Then what happens? Who are they left with? A small group of guys who will buy multiple models because they are hobbyists. There is no way a company can survive that loss of customers. Knives really arent a perishable product. There is really no reason to buy more than a few. A cutlery company needs to create the environment that fosters many multiple purchasers and grows the new customer base. That comes from three things. High quality, low price, availability of the product. Its been said before, its very hard to find a formula that allows for all three. They have chosen to let availability slide and keep prices lower and quality higher when the overwhelming sentiment from customers is centered around quality and availability and in the end it is going to hurt the company or even fold it all together if they do not adjust. The knives have spoken... they sell. Raise the damn price until the production can match the demand.

I VERY MUCH WANT GUY TO SUCCEED. HE MAKES MY FAVORITE KNIVES. I ROOT FOR THE UNDERDOG, THE REBEL.

Oh yeah, Guy is a rebel. He has been through some tough times and has decided to do things his own way.
Some people have a problem with his basic philosophy that a knife should be as good as possible and as cheap as possible.
Guy has listened to the smart marketing types and it bit him on the ass. Now he just does what he thinks is the right thing.
That doesn't stop some people from telling him to change his business model, but as far as I can see the only major change that he has made is to stop making specific predictions about delivery dates.
They say that they'll never do another large scale pre-order again. I hope that they never have to.
My prediction is that there is a solid market for excellent quality and affordably priced knives. He just needs to get through all these pre-orders and then remember the tough lessons.
