The "Talk me out of it" thread

The recent "Where can I buy some self-control" thread made me think of this.

I thought I'd create a thread for when we're tempted, we KNOW we're about to make a purchase we probably shouldn't, but are getting weak.

Maybe the respondents would point out the weak points of the knife. Maybe they would analyze the poster's collection and say: "You've already got 3 knives JUST LIKE THAT ONE."

etc.

OK, I'll start.

I've wanted a Cold Steel Voyager since I was a teeny bopper and they first came out. The clip blade looks great to me. The ugly stippling looks great to me. Not so sure about the aggressive stippling and super strong clip, nor the 4" blade. But the medium doesn't look comfy in the hand.

I've bought knives for weaker reasons than nostalgia. What do you say? Talk me out of it.

:) It's one of the most underrated folders around . At least try it out . You can always return or sell it . Great knife for the price . I have many versions of the Voyager and love them all . Can't go wrong with this knife .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

If you need further "discouragement" , try asking this on the Cold Steel forum .:p

When I was younger, I desired steel
I looked where I could, but all I could feel
Was the cold light of day filling my eyes
I needed a knife, that knife to survive...

So, I took that knife, all shiny and new
Cherished it, carried it, sharpened it too
It was a very good knife, until I caught sight,
A fancier knife, one best in a fight

Strong she was, the old one cast away
I carried this one, for at least two days
Until yet another came into view

And then I knew...
I will never be through... :(

The End

I bought one of those when I was relatively new to knives - years ago, when it was AUS8. It’s a well-designed knife, and all aspects of it scream “work knife” to me.

If you have the liquid cash, I’d honestly suggest going for a Recon 1 instead. The design is similar, but, in my opinion, superior.

Both are very robust knives that are reliable and made with good materials. I will say that an upside of the comparatively inexpensive voyager is that, were you to not like it, you could give it away without it being a particularly significant financial loss.

I say, spend more money and buy the recon 1 clip point. It’s a beefy knife for sure and comes with S35VN steel.
Edit: if it’s for nostalgia then you must buy it lol I have 4 ZT 0200’s mostly because of the nostalgia of when ZT’s really were “built like a tank”

We all learn from mistakes.
In fact if every single thing turned out perfect; i m certain this forums would soon be dead.
Luckily, everyone is a little different and even more so when it comes to personal preferences.
In short, one might seriously think about taking the plunge but the truth is we're only happy if every hopeful high expectation measures up with proven credibility.
If you want something bad enough, then go for it. The worst thing in a gamble is to dwell on forever with silly excuses for not having taken the risk when the opportunity to know the truth was there in the first place.

The excuse that I have used but still seems unhelpful......how can I use a new one that would be any different than some of the ones I already have? doesn't it look like that other one I have?

My Method: If I have have the money to cover something but I feel it might be an impulse buy I wait for two weeks (14 days) and if I still want it, I'll buy it. I told my 12yo to give it a try and it saved him $200 bucks of hard earned birthday money. He wanted a steering wheel for his Xbox but ended up getting a $100 dollar pair of sneakers instead, He actually thanked me and said "You were right dad" I love hearing that

Do you really expect that anyone on this forum has any logical reason to talk you out of buying a knife ?????
Ok, Ill make an attempt...………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Nope, couldn't think of one reason to talk you out of it. Get it already and start a new thread of your new knife with pics.
After all this is a knife forum about buying knives and everything knife relatedo_O.
You can always go to one of the therapy sites like "www. Tie me up.com" if you want to be talked out of something:D

If you don't have the self control to not buy something you know you can't afford. Why should I care or want to stop you? Go for it. Buy it. You deserve what you will get.

O.B.

Sounds to me like you are NOT completely sold on this model. But it's good to follow your heart, and if you've made a mistake, you can always resell it for a small loss. That's sorta what this forum is all about...

You're right, I'm not completely sold on it, which is probably why I haven't bought one decades ago, hahaha.

The thing to do is keep my eyes peeled for a used one, then try it out at low/no risk.
