The truth about Fällkniven S1 Pro

To my personal experience with FK models in the same size as the S1 Pro, they both baton and split firewood without any damage to the edge at all.
By using wedges like Mors Kochanski has shown, the risk of damage to the knife is further reduced.

Personally, I find they perform better and look better than Randalls.

The thing is, that any one knife can be a lemon.

what happened to that Randall?

what happened to that Randall?

When I got it, it was my first Randall. The fit and finish was awful. I called Randall, but they said there is no warranty and would not talk to me because I bought it from a person on the forum.

I didn't want the knife after that, and couldn't sell it because of the flaws. So I decided to test how good the blade was. It was as bad as the fit and finish. Cheap steel run way too soft. It almost destroyed itself. I'll never buy another Randall.

Here's the quality of the jimping.

The blade couldn't stand up to any abuse.

Note that Fällkniven doesnt say that their knife can not be used to split wood. Just that an axe is better, which is true.

"The truth about..." is a load of crap. You got a lemon, it can happen. You have been made whole. End of story. Can these expensive knives attract some people who understand the added value of Swedish engineering plus Japanese craftmanship,.... maybe. The price is very high (in my book), too high actually, but a Volcano is still on the radar. Because it's so sexy !

It's the original factory edge, just honed and stropped. That knife was bought new in 2007 and has seen a lot of hard use.
It still has the original edge.

Must be the reflection. Both my small SK2 and my large SK6 have 12 degree per side edges. The edge is barely visible. They are really well made knives.

Always appreciate your posts on Fallkniven knives, Mikael.

I’ve seen videos of them peeling apart, but never broken like that. As someone who’s beat the crap out of a couple F1s, I’m curious, I’d like to see a pic.
Actually similar to DBK youtube video where they break the tip off on purpose, just he broke off less than they did lol

Dutch Bushcrafters right? I think I’ve seen that video. I’m gonna have to rewatch it.
Yep, they made response video to someone and tortured the F1 on purpose, it took quite an abuse, only the tip broke tho. But rest of the knife held up well.

The guy I know has chipped his on first use, and many people here said that fallkies often chip on first use and it takes them few sharpenings to get to the better steel underneath. And about the broken tip, IDK, he was swinging it on piece of wood, he's a gamer who usually never uses his knives, he had several Moras and few Fallknivens and decided to use some of them one day. His technique probably sucked in all honesty, but still at the price range, he was disappointed.

Well, userskills are far more important than the pricetag on the knife.

Damn sexy!IMG_20200621_091332.jpg

There are plenty of people out there that are a few French fries short of a happy meal and probably shouldn't be handling sharp objects without some prior instruction! As Ron White said " You can't fix stupid "!!!!

If You want a new one You will need to get it fairly quick. They are about to be discontinued.
