The unofficial, non binding, carries no weight, 2020 forum knife possibility discussion thread

A query has been posed to GEC asking what they might be willing to offer us this year.
They know our budget requirements from previous years. They also know we we would like something a bit different from everyone else. We have not heard back from them yet.

If there is an option from Buck, it will be a fixed blade.
Frank, will there be a chance to vote or will the powers that be make the decision on who and what, and we just say yea or nay?

Appreciate the work y’all put in for us, frank.

Thanks for the update!!! Any option will be awesome. I would be in for either choice. I don't have a buck fixed blade. But a classis GEC pocket knife isn't bad either!

Something to look forward to

A GEC 92 Talon would be very pleasing (or any of their patterns with SPEAR;))

A Buck belt-knife is equally appealing:thumbsup:

Manic behaviour sometimes pays dividends:D

Just based off my use, I'd take a GEC slipjoint over a fixed blade buck. A fixed blade buck just doesn't do anything for me. The nice thing is, there's something for everyone here. What doesn't work for me is just great for someone else.

I'm hoping whatever we end up with, we add some color to the annual forum knife collection. If you look at the past runs we are missing something with bright or unique colors - most everything is a shade of brownish black...

Can we get some fun acrylic (like the GEC 29 grits, tortoise shell, beer scout draft beer, dead skunk, etc.), blue or orange bone, jigged wood,... anything different would be great. Jigged white bone...

A black handled Buck is beautiful, baby!

I didn’t realize we have had a lot of big, clunky GECs with dark wood handles for forum knives. I’m just glad that there are people on the forum that are willing to do the work to make this happen and that there are a couple of knife companies that are willing to work with us. If the knife interests me and I have the cash, I’ll get it, if it doesn’t interest me I won’t.

So, another big, clunky GEC with dark wood scales. Yay.

Hopefully we can go with acrylic or bone with some color this year - GEC does a pretty good orange.

I'm still holding out hope something might work out with Northwoods this year.

And so it begins...

2019 "big, clunky GEC with dark wood scales"
2018 Buck two blade stockman in elk
2017 GEC TC Barlow in natural micarta
2016 GEC single spring Harness Jack in (light brown?) jigged bone
2015 Canal Street two blade stockman in bocote wood
2014 GEC single clip blade Jack in sambar stag
2013 GEC Congress Jack in ivory linen micarta...

...Sorry, I'm not seeing a pattern.

As long as we dreaming, how about a GEC number 46 "Whaler" with two blades, if GEC be willing to do a run of it? :)
I doubt it could/would come in at the previously needed $100 price point though.

Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story (or complaint in this instance).

Acrylic? I'll be the lone voice crying out for tomato acrylic... I've been looking for one of those for a while. Hasn't been run in quite some time, either, IIRC....

Hey! Let's do a Buck/GEC collaboration.... a Buck fixed blade with tomato acrylic handle! Problem solved!
