I was not sure how the red soup bone would look with the fancier bolsters, but that mockup looks fantastic!

I’d vote for red soup bone first, red sawcut second, as head and shoulders above the others, and smooth white bone, calico bone, oily creek bone, or smooth autumn gold bone as good other options. This big dressy knife begs for the heft of bone.

How about the nail nick inside a long pull, something new . . .

But seriously, I hate double pulls, to me maybe the dumbest thing I've ever seen on a knife. Are you supposed to put your thumb nail in one and a finger nail in the other???????
Is it a left/right thing?

Got to agree with you Jeff, there's things we all like and dislike about knife patterns, finishes, etc, but when I look at a blade with a pull AND a nick, I just think some fool ruined the knife, and that they look positively stupid

Didn't Carlie say that we might get a couple of options for handle materials, and that would be it for choices?
I'm probably paraphrasing and could be wrong.

Handles and finish appear to be the two things we have the opportunity to choose:
I will that we get a knife we can live with!!;) I will that we collectively choose the handles, since everything else has been chosen for us!!
I just thought of one more thing - i think we can choose the finish!!
(I K, I K, another can of worms!!)

Charlie also asked that we consider a few parameters while discussing handles:
Just bringing this over for your convenience!!

It's time we had a poll!! Before we do, let's let some bickering begin!!;)
This will eventually determine the handle on our knives!!
The least expensive is flat with beveled edges, and undyed, whether wood or bone. Sawcutting, rounding, dying, jigging etc. each add something to the cost. I say these things under my guiding principle of keeping costs low, but you of course should have what you want, as much as possible. Please let's rule out Stag or Horn (too expensive) and synthetics (for me guys!!)
Everything else is on the table as mentioned above. So before we set this poll up, can we have a couple of days of opinions??o_O
Let's keep it civil, and Porch-like, and think twice before you put something crazy down that might be funny, but waste this opportunity!!
I know, I know - no fun!!:p
Whudda ya fancy??

Would it be too crazy to throw in an acrylic option?

I'm probably one of the few who would be good with acrylic handles, and tomato acrylic is one of my favorites. However based on the last dead skunk examples, something has changed in the production process and the currently acrylics are not up to par where I would want to see them used on this knife.

I really like Ironwood, but (polishing aside) the grain varies a lot, and I think that would lead to a lot of moaning  Some Ironwood can be spectacular, while other examples from the same batch rather lacklustre

Yep, which is exactly what happened on the 74s (and 47s, really).

I've owned 4 different Ironwood knives, and had bad luck with all of them. They were just plain dark brown, all got sold away. If I'm going to gamble on a handle material, I'd rather gamble on something other than Ironwood.

Hey! Lefties have rights! :D

If it’s so stiff that you need two nails, you may as well just cut an EO notch.

Long pull is better looking, little nail notch is ok, but NOT both, please.

I agree. I have gotten very lucky with one knife, not so much otherwise. While the good examples of Ironwood are stunning, I think there are some woods that seem to be much more consistently figured - or at least produce a greater abundance of well figured slabs.

Mesquite was mentioned once, awhile ago. I'm not very familiar with it in general, but the SFO 23s from CK seemed to all be great pieces. I'm pretty sure those were acquired by Mike though, and sent to GEC. Not sure how much, if any, Mike would have had to pick through to get all nice slabs like that.

We would have to vote on who we want to be on the selection committee. They would have to vote to decide which color glitter choices are to be offered to the membership. Then we could vote on the preferred glitter color from the choices determined by the glitter steering committee.

That doesn’t even consider the use of sequins for which a separate vote to form a sequin selection committee and then they would have to vote to determine if they want to offer their selection for sequin colors to be included with the vote to determine glitter color or to offer sequins as a separate vote to the membership.
It could take a while.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
