If we're talking Sawcut, GEC's Copperhead dye is consistently good. The Old Red they used to use was also stellar, but I haven't seen any red like this from GEC in years.

Comparison of the different saws' cuts:

On a big knife such as the 86 wood scales will be pure eye-candy with the colors and swirls that wood usually brings. Since blackwood and redwood afaik have been used on the 86 before (plus the sucker rod wood) I wouldn't mind to see ironwood or cocobolo, especially the latter. Someone mentioned snakewood but I don't believe that is a possibility. Unfortunately.
Admittedly I'm not a big fan of bone but the left one in the quote is sooo stellar looking and would get my vote if the majority settle on bone. Cocobolo still looks better though

@waverave Nice job with those mockups. I'm definetly a huge long pull fan so if long pulls are an option you can put me down as a +1 for a long pull. If you have free time I'd love to see the Ivory smooth bone option with the long pull. Cheers.

Desert Ironwood is one of my all time favorite cover materials, but I have to agree with some of the others that GEC didn’t put the best finish on the DI #47 and #74.

It’s easy enough to take some micro-mesh pads to it (I recently bought some for just that actually), but I’d hate for people to be disappointed with what they receive.

Either one of those would be fine with me , but I have a feeling that the Nail Nick may be a Baked In thing with the GEC 86 run .

Harry
I'm pretty sure you're right Harry. I think our choices are limited to handles and finish. Hoping that pins/liners are negotiable as well, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not angry though... We're getting a knife, and get to choose something!

Ironwood would mean rough bolsters which wouldn't do this knife justice IMO.

What if they just threw some glitter in the tube en lieu of the desiccant packet? Then only the truly committed would get one, the rest living in fear of having all their worldly goods covered in glitter for the next 6-12 months.

Yes!!! So when the top is popped...glitter flies out everywhere! Haha.
