Update: I called GEC today to talk to Bill about a BF knife, but he was very busy with Inventory today, so he asked me to call back in a day or two!
I want to discuss this at just the right time, so we wait a little longer!

On another speculative note, I thought of proposing to all you esteemed gentlemen the following, inspired by the Antipodean Bunny Knife!!View attachment 1527665 View attachment 1527666 View attachment 1527668
If GEC flipped the handle of the #93 (Lamb/Ram Foot) and added a Muskrat or California Clip, we could call it the "JackRabbit!!
IvoryBone handles would Cap it nicely!! (Wish I knew Photoshop!!:()View attachment 1527680
The Bunnies are 3 1/2" long, and the #93 would become a #39, 3 7/8", a stretch version!! Possibly using existing part designs??
What say you??o_O
Sounds phenomenal to me!

Yes please. I wasn't around for the last two ... refresh my mind was one of the requirements paid member or just history of posting?

I got the 15-18 but missed 19 and 20.

Thanks,

Josh

That would be really cool, especially with the Muskrat! I'm totally on board if you can get them to do that.

Thanks.

You're the player; you call the game. But I do like all that except . . . for what little it's worth, though, ivory bone would be just about my last choice. I like the nice ebony or blackwood on the ones in your pics. Osage orange would be out of this world. But again, I might be on an island on all that anyway. And I always believe the fiddler calls the tune (enough mixed metaphors, yet :D?). So go for it - and thanks, again.

That idea sounds great. I might be in the minority around here, but I’m a fan of the California clip.

I’ve seen a knife called a rabbit knife that looked very interesting to me. It was more of a sowbelly shape with a skinner blade. Is that a different take on the bunny knife or are the two unrelated?

The jackrabbit would be fantastic Charlie, or if Bill just gives us an option for something that fits into the production schedule, that would be great too. GEC has always produced an incredible forum knife and it would be nice to carry on the tradition for another year.

Unrelated is my guess, but it would be interesting

This is what I have seen referred to as a rabbit knife, which I think looks very cool. I think I have seen a couple other similar rabbit knives. Didn’t know if they were related to the bunny knife. It’s a John Lloyd, and it is not my picture, it belongs to @VCM3 (hopefully it’s okay to post).

Hi Charlie,

Firstly thanks for the great work contacting Bill. I wish you all the best in your endeavours!

As one of the Australian members of these forums, I would love GEC to produce an authentic, old school bunny knife like the ones you have in your collection or the newer ones here https://www.knivesaustralia.com.au/collections/joseph-rodgers/bunny

But I have a couple of reservations. One is, I think a bunny knife has to be an authentic bunny knife. That is, a pattern that rabbiters all carried as it met their needs perfectly. I think any Bunny Knife should respect that tradition and be the same pattern (length, shape and clip blade) as those old knives were. I don’t think it would work if it were made longer.

Also, what distinguishes a bunny knife from other jack knives is its kidney shape, including its length, so that’s another reason you can’t really make a jack knife on a different pattern and call it a bunny knife. Unless it has that silhouette it won’t be recognisable as one.

Lastly, I would love to see a bunny knife in two versions such as an ebony or callico bone with that amazing blade etch, and a user in say stainless steel and orange delrin similar to this knife - that would be so cool!

Lastly, although the word ‘antipodean’ is sometimes used to describe these parts of the world, technically the antipodes are a bit south of New Zealand (the antipodal of Cherbourg) and I doubt they have any bunnies there! Much too cold and windy - but there is any number of cool names you could give this pattern of either the geographic or leporine variety!

Bunny knife would be fine. If GEC agrees to do the forum knife, I would like to suggest sawcut Osage orange for the handles regardless of pattern. I like sawcut bone a lot and the sawcut Osage looked fantastic in the photos. Also, its not something that you see all the time.

Thanks for filling us in on some of the story, Camillus Camillus !! I too, would like an authentic Bunny Knife, but my suggestion for GEC would be to use existing parts for us, hence the stretch to JackRabbit!!:D
They can be big critters! It would be interesting to hear from a "harvester" of said animals, as to what knife would be best for the actual use.
I'm not sure a wide blade, made by John Lloyd, posted by Sacto Sacto above would be a handy Rabbit knife; but I am a city slicker, having only skinned a couple deer in my life!!

The nice thing about aging old bone is, it looks like Ivory, but is legal!!

Ivory bone sounds great to me!

Are most Bunny Knives single, or double bladed? A clip/castrator isn't exactly the same as a PunchNut, but it would likely get my vote.

I kinda like the idea of the Bunny/Rabbit Jack - even though I'm one of those who is not a fan of the Cali-clip.
