I just want all of us who participate in the forum to have a fair shot. It’s a forum knife for forum users, not meant as an easy way to pocket some $$. FB groups all got word of this and are scrambling to get their BF account and post count up before a criteria is setup. It just feels weird to see them posting bladeforums screenshots explaining what you need to do to get one. Rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it’s just time I leave those groups on FB. It’s all buy sell and flip, not much conversation like we have here. Just my 2 cents.
The blade may be predetermined, granted the spear would be fantastic, but if sawcut is an option for the handle, I hope they go with the deeper cuts like they did on the Heritage Jack.A Northwoods run was done on the #86 frame - called the Heritage Jack and it came with a most excellent spear. In fact, if I recall correctly, the blade was a nice representation of some spear blades on some old jacks. I think Charlie has shown pictures of them before.
All that to say, a spear would look superb on this Barlow but it looks like our blade option is set in stone.

Judging from all of the "I'm ins", and a record number of "Likes" for this thread (over 150 while I slept!!), I'd say we must keep this ball rolling!!
I'm not sure when I will have more info, but I will always post here without delay!! Bill does not like nagging!! And I don't blame him!!
Please be patient, and we will put this all together, with any choices if possible.
At this point I can only see the handle choice as a variable, The blade and bolster are pretty well fixed options (oxymoron there!), and certainly respectable !! Thanks for all the enthusiasm!!
I will do my best to make sure every regular contributor to "Traditionals" has a chance to get one. Porch members are a priority!!
Seeing a few posts of concerns about folks jumping over from the FB groups just for the hopes of grabbing a forums knife. I can totally understand the concern, but if you look back just two years ago, we had more people commit to buying than actually did and members were happy to take in the “extras,” so I don’t think having enough to go around will be an issue. I’ve been a member here since 2013 and I don’t think I met the criteria in 2019. I messaged a mod and explained that I typically don’t post questions here that have already been answered dozens of time and choose to use the search option instead. I chime in when I feel like it and mostly just loom in the background taking it all in. I don’t think members like myself should be penalized for not being as outspoken as some others. I was allowed to get 2 knives that year. One went to a member just like myself and I’m happy to say that he still cherishes that knife still. Now the the ones that heard about the forum knife yesterday, joined immediately and have posted like a madman in the last 24 hours, that’s a different story.
I’m proposing an 86 with a Spear Blade to complete the BladeForums Trifecta.
I like them blank...for nowThose bolsters are screaming for some sort of stamp![]()
Custom scroll?I like them blank...for now![]()
I'll do anything but scroll...there's a ton of guys doing scrollwork.Custom scroll?
Big ol' BF logoIt would be neat if there was something stamped on the bolster. Maybe an anchor?
