The Upcoming and Past Toothpick Thread

Just a reminder that they did use regular clip blades in the past. This one from the 2011 run.

Certainly and I very much prefer that regular clip vs the muskrat :) I have a feeling the stag NF version with no shield and that nice clip blade is going to be pretty sweet :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for that pic, Jeff. I was just about to announce my disappointment until I saw your picture. When I tried to imagine that blade on this knife it wasn't working out very well but I'm OK with this after seeing your picture. I still prefer the Muskrat Clip but I like this blade on the #12 too.

To me the regular clip made a lot of sense for the two-blade jack, so the pen could sit in front of the clip and still get at the long pull. But of course, GEC being the non-conformist that they are, they went and put the pen behind anyway!

The 2-blade #12s always appealed to me more, but you get an awesome "tang stamp poker" hand with your version, Darren!! ;):thumbsup: Five Aces is tough to beat!:rolleyes:

It took me a few seconds to understand what you were talking about but I get it now :) 121111
You have 4 Aces :D

Jeff black mamba black mamba it is interesting how or why they choose one side or the other. I feel like it is easier, for me, to pull open the main blade with the secondary behind it (I'm right handed) but I could also see that it would be easier to pull out the secondary with it in front.

Did you ever play "serial # poker" with dollar bills when you were a kid? Modifying the game for knife pattern numbers was one of the first things a "numerist" like me thought of as I was introduced to knife makers' stamps. :) (I also look, and long, for knives with stamps that contain meaningful number sequences such as important dates and address numbers.)

I don't know...but these sure look like regular clip blades to me not muskrat clips. And that totally changes my plan to not grab any of the NF version :)

They look sure enough like regular clip blades, but those tangs are square. The Muskrat clips for the 12's look to be cam tangs. Do any of the Toothpicks have half-stops?

I do recall now you mentioning before some possible tang stamp numbers that would be meaningful for you. That is very cool and adds an extra layer of consideration and anticipation when finding out what is on GEC production schedule (or changes to it) :) In this case, changing the blade from muskrat to regular clip. I happen to know someone who has a database of all the tang stamps who might now need to go look at the data a little differently with this all in mind ;)

Yeah based on the quantities made of those I would say you are correct :) I don't think I've ever seen one of the purple materials I need to find some photos. I'll bet that purple camel bone is pretty sweet!

This is the only one that I can remember that actually looks purple color. Most of the ones with purple in the name.....are not very purple.
You have to remember how odd GECs naming of jigging and color are.

These were beautiful. I generally don't prefer locking two hand open knives, but I bought two of these. One I gave to a friend, the other I gave to my brother when he gave me my purple belt. Still, the bone was so pretty I wish I had gotten one to keep.

The plot thickens. I wonder what those classic clip points are for...

:D:D

My fondest wish is that GEC will decide two years from now to make a 1-blade cotton sampler smaller than their #74, on the 15 frame. Its tang stamp, read backward, would be my MMDDYY birthdate!:cool::cool::thumbsup::D

Hmmm...yeah I can't imagine those blades will go in the #12...bummer :) I had my hopes up! Curious what they are for though  The #29 perhaps?

I've been looking at some pics of the Rosewood Toothpicks on a couple of dealer websites and I have to say that I think this pattern is beautiful in both the open and closed positions.

I also have to agree that if the classic clip blade is used on the Northfields it might spoil the look somewhat. I'll have to see the finished Northfields but right now I'm thinking that aesthetically speaking, the Muskrat clip can't be beat for this pattern.

I'm getting a Northfield Pony Cut regardless but it was the only one I had planned to buy. Might have to take the plunge on a Tidioute too now that I see those dealer pics.

That Rosewood has me looking too. I try to stay a little shorter than 4” for watch pocket carry. But it’s a cool knife that I don’t have. (That’s my self imposed buying filter debating my knife loving self out loud.)

I like to stay 3-1/2" on shorter as well, but I have one of these from one of the old runs and it is VERY pocketable. In my opinion this pattern NEEDS the muskrat clip - the normal clip ruins the lines when open and ruins the slim pocketability while closed. It slips in very nicely next to a cell phone in my front pocket. I've been looking forward to this run for just under 10 years.

4/12/2019 Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" was released 65 years ago. GEC should put a guitar on a #12 toothpick or on any GEC knife this year.
