The "Whatever" Thread

After 8 years as best as I can recall, I finally got a fishing license and went out fishing today! If all goes well we'll be going out again tomorrow. I had not forgotten how much fun it is to get out on a river, but did forget how relaxing it can be...having a not quite yet 5 year old to drag around makes it that much more fun; if nothing else we can throw rocks again.

Hating this hot weather! One of my jobs is in un air conditioned warehouses, and of course my shop has none.

TPVT, the show was amazing. They were deffinitely the highlight. He had so much energy, and played pretty much non stop for 2 hours. They finished off their encore with the best version of good times are killing me that I've ever heard. They also did a very diverse set list. I was affraid that they may only do new new stuff, but they did alot of older stuff too which was great.
They are my favorite band of all time, and I am so glad I got to see them atleast once.
Also, these hot swedish chicks(first aid kit)that did sort of acoustic indie music did a great cover of black sabath's war pigs.
This was an amazing experience. The only bad part was that I could only carry my sak. I had to leave the new tobys knife in the car.

I might be showing my age, but I never heard of any of these bands! I'm a classic rock fan from the 70's and early 80's.

That's okay. i'm only 25, and recently I checked the schedule for a huge music festival. I'm talking 30+ bands. I recognized maybe 5 bands. I'm loosing touch really quick.
I am still depressed that I missed Rush a couple months back. I also passed on the Stones since I didn't have any one to go with me, and it was really short notice. There is a chance I'll see Steely Dan, though. That is if I can talk my paps into going with me.

John, a few pages back you mentioned trying out the Taurus you got in trade. I've been wanting to ask, was that at a local range, your place or do you belong to a gun/hunt club?

I've been looking for places to shoot since moving here but they aren't easy to find.

It was at a range in Lockport, Rink's, on Archer Ave. they only charge $10 to shoot there. How close are you to I-355?

Just signed up for a virtual 5k (with a pirate medal!). Finally time to get out and start taking care of myself again. I miss the army forcing me to do it haha.

Looking at the Google maps app, I'm 34 miles from Rinks and about a 40 minute drive without traffic. Not terrible.

I'll definitely keep them in mind. Thanks.

A new range is being built in Bolingbrook, right by the Bass Pro Shop, due to be done this Fall, but it will be $20

Managed to kill my second dremel this past year reshaping a 16" Tramontia machete down to a 9" camp splitter. Now I need to buy another and send the first two in to see what it costs to get them repaired.

Next time, go buy a diamond or carbide bit for a jig saw and cut off the waste and leave 1/4"-1/8" of space, then grind that down. It will be much faster and easier on your hands, lungs, and shop vac. Clamp it to a 1x4 and cut away.

I used the angle grinder with a cut off disc for the excess. I was using the dremel for grinding a choil and rounding the tip.

What bit/wheel/stone did you use for the choil? Since you have an angle grinder, get a flap wheel. It will make the small/gradual removal much easier.

I use the standard stone grinding wheel. I'll use a flap wheel next time money was just kind of tight so I was trying to work with what I had. Thanks for the advice though.

There is a public range managed by the forestry service about 15 minutes from my house. I guess I never gave much thought to how lucky I am. There are a few clubs within 20 miles but I can usually shoot all I need at the public range.

Other options would be a carbide bit for your dremel, or vertical cuts to 1/16"ish shy of the choil with a hacksaw then a worn down cut off wheel on the dremel to cut them out for clearance. The Stone would be used for the final grinding/shaping.

Ahh I see, I'm used to having a full machine shop to work with so I have been trying to Macguyver most of my metalwork lately.

When I got married the first time back in 1975, my ex wife's uncle was the Township Highway Commissioner. They had just built a new building out in the middle of nowhere, and were looking for someone to keep watch on it. We bought a used mobile home and put it on the property. All we had were the mobile home payments of $120 per month, they paid all the utilities. Between that and payments of $110 per month on my new Jeep CJ5, we were living large! Some of the guys who worked there were shooters, so all I had to do was walk out my door to shoot, even high powered rifles. We lived there for 8 years, it was great! Now you can't go there and throw a rock without hitting something.

OK, just got back into work after a much needed three day vaca/weekend.
We got to see two monuments, Pres. Jefferson Davis and Gen. Robert Lee.
Surprisingly, neither were vandalized. We didn't make it to the Civil War Museum, but no big deal. Im sure the monuments may end up at the museum anyway.

The show was... Spectacular! Old Crow didn't play as long as I would have liked. They played all their recognizable songs that everybody could sing-a-long with, so it was fun.
The Avett Bros. are truly amazing to see live. I understand now why they have blown up in last few years.
Those guys can pull you emotionally any way they want you to go.
They played a song I had never heard before that brought me and the missus to tears. Along with a couple thousand others, im sure.

The song is called Murder In The City and its about a father of two boys that writes them a letter before leaving to work in the city.
It really hit home for me because I have two young boys that im raising and I couldn't help but put myself in the Father's shoes.

Anyway, heres a link to the song below. Its worth checking out.
Please turn the volume loud if possible. :p
