The "Whatever" Thread

These long work hours are kicking my butt. Easy to admit I'm not as young as I once was. Hopefully things are back to normal by Wednesday or Thursday.

Today was a sad day for me because I had to go back to work. Unpacking from vacation and doing laundry. I’ll be posting pictures in the next few days.

One of my close friends knows that I really enjoy sharpening and maintaining blades. He dropped off his favorite knife for me to sharpen. He is very rough with his knives so I didn’t want to go too thin, I think he’ll be happy. I may give him a couple bandaids to take with him35D83F9F-8D5C-42E4-BF35-F0FD402BA0B7.jpeg

He was beyond happy with that edge. He said it’s been sitting unused for years because it was so dull.

That one was done on the wicked edge. I love sharpening, it’s very therapeutic for me. I have the wicked edge, Spyderco sharpmaker, a number of Japanese stones, diamond plates, sanding sheets, diamond films, and 6 different strops.

I did this other one for him that I started on a diamond plate, went to three water stones, and then finished on diamond film. Notice the bevels are not perfect, but it came out pretty good!

ETA this one had large chips in the edge so I spent a good thirty minutes on the diamond plate before moving on.

Great job on sharpening, not my favorite thing to try, glad there are those who can help us u tool we get better at it.

Another good outing.

Supposed to cool off here, so I decided to go for a little hike and try to find some bluffs that I spied on google. Found the bluffs, ran out of day light, got turned around (slightly lost) and ended up coming out on private property, about 1.5 miles up the road from where I parked.

Good times.:D

Don't you love that feeling when you realize you aren't sure which way to go to get back to the truck?
And the extra walking involved.
I remember walking past a spot I had just walked past a few minutes before and realizing I was lost.
Kinda scary, but I knew there was a road in three directions and a swamp in the other so with a bit of extra walking I made it out ok.
Glad you did too Coop.

I actually do kind of love that feeling, but I was glad I had my flashlight with me.

When I went night hiking on saturday, I thought I knew a shortcut to where we were going to camp. It was frustrating to realize I had been walking in circles. So I walked to a landmark and got my bearings from there.

This evening it was all new scenery. I had walked up a power right of way, so as long as I could see the sun, I knew I could go south and get back to the power lines. Once it dropped below the horizon, it was impossible to tell exactly where the sun was, so after a little while of guessing on south and getting more lost, I headed what I knew to be east and eventually came out on the road leading to my car.

Lately I have been doing a lot of hiking in areas without trails. I should probably pick up a compass, or at least tell someone where I'm going.

I don't remember ever being lost but do remember a few times I found out I wasn't where I thought I was. The most memorable time was when I was hunting and decided to take a shortcut back to the gravel road I drove in on. All I needed to do was follow the power lines. It would have worked great if I had been walking the right direction.
